Tottenham could lose one of their midfielders in the summer transfer window, with an English club ready to activate a transfer clause to secure a signing.

We could see a host of players leave Tottenham this summer, with the club undoubtedly ready to get rid of some of their players after a disappointing few years.

Spurs need a complete overhaul of their squad if they remain in the Premier League or are relegated, while some players will be hoping for moves back to clubs playing in Europe.

If Tottenham do avoid relegation, they will need to bring in multiple reinforcements if they want to avoid another disastrous season.

It's a chance to back Roberto De Zerbi in the market and bring in players that are capable of playing his system and style.

English Club Eyeing Tottenham Star

According to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, Preston are hoping to tie up a record-breaking deal with Tottenham to sign midfielder Alfie Devine.

Devine spent the 2025-2026 season on loan at Preston, and they agreed a £4.5m option to buy transfer clause in the deal.

Preston now hope to agree a payment plan with Spurs for the midfielder as they could be able to afford the record-breaking fee if it's spread over three or four years.

Devine enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Preston, providing 14 goals and assists combined in the Championship.

It's no surprise that they are hoping to secure his signature on a permanent basis, but it's the type of fee they have never paid before.

Tottenham Might Regret Option-to-Buy Clause

There is the chance that Tottenham could regret allowing Preston to insert an option to buy clause in the contract of Devine.

The midfielder has impressed massively for Preston this season, and at the age of 21, he's yet to reach his full potential.

Journalist Alasdair Gold believes that Spurs could regret it, believing he's worth triple the option to buy fee, describing it as 'dirt-cheap'.

Another season on loan in the Championship before potentially breaking into Tottenham's team could have been ideal, but there's every chance he heads through the exit door now with Preston looking to secure his signature permanently.
