Cristian Romero has spoken of his pride after being named captain by Thomas Frank.

The announcement of Cuti's appointment came on Wednesday morning and he will officially lead the team out for the first time when we face PSG in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine, Italy this evening (8pm UK).

Named as one of Heung-Min Son's vice-captains alongside James Maddison in August, 2023, Cuti now takes over the armband as he prepares for his fifth season as a Spur, having joined us in the summer of 2021.

Speaking to us from Udine, Cuti said: "I’m very happy to be the first team captain of the club. It’s amazing for me.

"Today, we (Cuti and Thomas) spoke before training. Maybe before the start of the season I’ve spoken a lot with him. He’s a good coach and I said, ‘thank you’ for this, also.

“It’s a big responsibility. I spoke with the players and tomorrow is also another big night for the club, for the players, for the fans, we need to enjoy this moment."

Asked for a message to the fans ahead of the UEFA showpiece, Cuti added: "Enjoy this match, enjoy this moment. The last 20 years, the club is sometimes good, close to winning, so enjoy this moment. To win another trophy at the start of the season would be amazing.

"It’s football. Sometimes bad moments, sometimes good moments, but the most important thing is to be all together like this, starting with another big night for the club, Saturday, the start of another season for us, the most important thing is to stay all together. We want to win."
