Cristian Romero has provided a new update on his recovery process following the knee injury he sustained during Tottenham’s game against Sunderland.

Tottenham Hotspur have not had to contend with any fresh injury concerns in recent weeks, which is a major boost given their struggles on the injury front for most of the season.

As it stands, heading into their clash with Chelsea in the Premier League, Spurs are set to be without just seven players.

In fact, the injury news from Tottenham has been mostly positive, with Spurs Web relaying Roberto De Zerbi’s update on Guglielmo Vicario, who has returned to first-team training.

However, Dominic Solanke remains out, although there is still hope that he could feature for Spurs before the season ends.

Last week, we revealed that Cristian Romero opted against travelling to his hometown as he underwent rehab. The Spurs captain is said to have wanted to remain close to the club amid the current relegation fight.

Instead, Argentine kinesiologist Luis Garcia travelled to England to help oversee Romero’s recovery process directly.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Romero has now shared an update on his recovery process on his Instagram story. The Tottenham defender is back doing outdoor training and appears to be moving freely without any pain or restriction in his knee.

This comes after we reported last week that his knee braces were gone. You can watch Romero’s training footage here:

Spurs likely to remain cautious with Cristian Romero return

The big question, though, is whether Romero can still play for Tottenham this season. In all honesty, that now looks very unlikely.

Spurs have just two more games left before the season ends, with Chelsea on Tuesday and Everton on Sunday, May 24. Those clashes could come too soon for the Argentine defender.

If Tottenham secure their Premier League status against Chelsea, there will be little sense in risking the World Cup winner in a dead-rubber game against Everton, especially with the international break only a few weeks away.

The Argentine is now most likely to return to action in a friendly fixture for Argentina in preparation for the World Cup this summer.
