What a few days for Cuti Romero.
Named captain by Thomas Frank last Wednesday, Cuti led us to within minutes of UEFA Super Cup glory against PSG in Udine on Thursday, led the team out alongside his son at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday and to a 3-0 victory against Burnley and has now put pen to paper on a new, long-term deal.
A fans’ favourite now into his fifth season at Spurs, the feeling is clearly mutual as Cuti described his emotions after signing his new deal.
“Honestly, the last two weeks, first captain, now a new contract with the Club, I’m very, very happy. For me, it’s a fantastic decision. Now we start together again. I’m very happy at the club. For me, this club is the best in the world. For this, I extend my contract.”
Asked what makes the club so special, he said: “The people here, inside, a top manager, I’m very happy with the club. My children were born here. My family is very happy here. It was special for me to walk onto the pitch with my son (against Burnley on Saturday). I love football, I love this club. It was special for me to be with him.”
Asked for a message for the fans, Cuti added: “Thanks for your support every day, every match, for me it’s important, also for the team. Again, for me, the most important thing is to stay all together. Sometimes in football, good moments, bad moments, the most important thing is to stay together. Why not win again this season?”
