Daniel Levy has overseen another business blunder at Tottenham.
Levy has always had a meticulous approach when it comes to transfers at Tottenham. Harry Kane has been the most successful to date. Kane joined Bayern Munich for an initial fee of £82million in 2023.
But he has also made some poor calls. Tanguy Ndombele arrived in 2019 as a record signing but departed in 2024 following the mutual termination of his contract.
And it now seems that Levy will add another failed investment to his already extensive list by 1 September.
Tottenham to recoup £10million for Yves Bissouma
Yves Bissouma’s exit from Tottenham has been on the cards since the beginning of the summer.
MORE SPURS STORIES
It has been one thing after another for the midfielder at Spurs. Thomas Frank failed to name Bissouma in the squad to face PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern has pushed him out even further.
If he does leave, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs could pocket £10m for Bissouma. This would be £20m less than what was paid.
“The most that Tottenham would probably shift him for £10 million, to be honest with you,” Wenham said.
“Maybe even £8m, he’s four or five months out to be able to agree a pre-contract to go for nothing. He’s not going to get a new contract at Tottenham. So it’s what is he worth to Tottenham over the 11 months? £10m, I’d say.
“He’s probably worth more than that if he’s in a longer contract and if he’s performing at the level. But the fact that we kind of want him out diminishes his value as well.”
Top five least profitable Tottenham sales under Levy
Levy is known for being a fierce negotiator at Tottenham, but has had a few sales that have not aged well.
Ndombele unsurprisingly tops the list. Bought from Lyon for £55m in 2019, he left on a free transfer in 2024 following loan spells at Napoli and Galatasaray.
Giovani Lo Celso’s switch to Real Betis seemed to be a bargain at the time, offloading him for a fee of around £8.4m, while Spurs also agreed a deal to purchase Johnny Cardoso at a small price this summer. But with Cardoso opting to sign for Atletico Madrid, this seems like a resounding failure.
Davinson Sanchez is next on the list. Bought from Ajax for £42m in 2017, he signed at Galatasaray for £8.1m in 2023.
Robert Soldado was a disappointment while at Spurs. Acquired for £26m from Valencia in 2013, he was sold to Villarreal in 2015 for £10m.
Paulinho was also bought for £17m from Corinthians in 2013 as part of the spending spree that summer. However, he was sold two years later to Guangzhou Evergrande for just £10m.
