Daniel Levy has been criticised for his approach to Tottenham’s summer transfer window, and his latest transfer decision may condemn him further.

However, his recent decisions in the summer transfer window have led some to consider whether this was another false promise.

Tottenham are interested in youngster Giorgio Scalvini
Tottenham have spent the past few seasons developing young talent, and that does not look likely to change anytime soon.

As reported by CaughtOffside on Sunday (6 July), Tottenham are among the clubs interested in Atalanta central defender Giorgio Scalvini.
It is understood that he could be available for around £51.7million this summer, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle also keen on his transfer.
But English clubs will not be Spurs’ only worry, as the Italian international also has suitors within Serie A. The report states that Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan are all determined to get his signature.
While this may seem like a good market opportunity, there are doubts about whether he is what Tottenham need at the moment.
To continue winning silverware home and abroad Spurs will need to strike a balance between youth and experience. If Scalvini were to sign at Hotspur Way, he would join the very long line of young players who are waiting for the chance to prove themselves.
While potential assets for the future, it is doubtful whether these youngsters could help Frank to win big right now. As a result, the Dane could find his expectations at Tottenham difficult to navigate.
Scalvini will struggle to replace Romero
There is no doubt that Spurs’ young core will allow them to compete for years to come. However, the club must make the most of the summer transfer window if they want to succeed now.
Indeed, Hotspur Way could see several departures this summer, including central defender Cristian Romero. The Argentine has proven himself as one of the best defenders the Premier League has to offer.
As a result, replacing him with a 21-year-old may seem like poor planning on Levy’s part. Not only is he young, but he also lacks Premier League experience, which could present an issue later down the line.
Furthermore, the youngster spent almost the entirety of last season recovering from an ACL tear as well as a later shoulder injury. It may be unwise to invest so much into a player who may struggle to find his best form again.
Therefore, Tottenham should look for a more senior player to replace Romero if he leaves this summer.
