‘Levy humiliated once again’ as Tottenham transfer exit to be agreed in hours
Daniel Levy has once again been left with egg on his face after a failed Tottenham transfer.
Tottenham have signed countless players who have failed to live up to the hype during Levy’s chairmanship.
Tanguy Ndombele was expected to be the next best thing when Spurs signed him for a club-record fee. However, after five years full of underwhelming performances, fitness issues, and loan spells, Tottenham announced the termination of the Frenchman’s contract in 2024.
The same has been true for the likes of Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso and Richarlison, and it seems as though Levy now has another failed transfer to add to his resume.
Racing Club are closing in on Alejo Véliz
Tottenham signed Alejo Véliz for £13million in August 2023, and the striker has since made just eight appearances.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The forward was sent to Sevilla midway through his debut season and spent last year on loan with Espanyol. However, Véliz struggled to make an impact with either club.
It has been widely reported that a return to his boyhood club is on the cards, but it seems that Rosario Central are not the only club in the race.
As reported by Juan Pablo De Luca via X on Thursday (26 June), Racing Club are in advanced negotiations to sign Véliz. Racing have already made a formal offer to Spurs, and there is optimism about a deal being closed over the weekend, with the negotiations entering “decisive hours”.
The finalisation of his transfer would see Levy humiliated once again. Not only will Véliz represent another failure in the market, but Spurs have yet to bring in any fresh faces this summer.
The lack of signings and failed transfers will certainly add to supporters’ uncertainties surrounding Levy’s position at Tottenham.
Levy needs to make amends in the transfer window
Tottenham fans are already beginning to lose patience with Levy, and there is no doubt that the pending transfer of Véliz will add to it.
After countless failed transfers over the years, supporters will be hoping to see a promising signing made this summer. The Lilywhites have already been linked with several transfers, including RB Leipzig’s Xabi Simons.
However, Spurs fans have been sceptical over his transfer, not because they do not want to see Simons signed, but because they do not trust Levy to agree a deal.
Therefore, if the Tottenham Chairman wants to win back the Spurs supporters, Simons must become the statement signing of the summer.
