Daniel Levy has stepped back into the transfer spotlight, with Tottenham moving to rival Crystal Palace for a midfielder who could well be the club’s last big push of the summer window.
It has been a frustrating last few weeks for Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer market, with the club facing rejection after rejection in their chase for a creative number ten.
The North London side looked set to have landed their preferred attacking midfielder target earlier in the window, after reports suggested Spurs had triggered Morgan Gibbs White’s £60m release clause and even scheduled a medical for the player.
That move collapsed soon after, with Gibbs White committing his future to Nottingham Forest instead. Eberechi Eze was another name on the table and looked destined for Tottenham, but Arsenal swooped in and secured the Englishman, leaving Spurs scrambling as the transfer deadline approaches.
Tottenham set to rival Crystal Palace for Bilal El Khannouss
A report from Foot Africa now states that Tottenham have entered the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Bilal El Khannouss.
Crystal Palace have had the Moroccan international firmly on their radar and viewed him as the ideal replacement for Eberechi Eze, but it is now being suggested that Spurs could gazump their London rivals for his signature.
Sources said to be ‘very close’ to the player claim Tottenham’s approach has come directly from Daniel Levy, who is personally driving the attempt to land El Khannouss.

El Khannouss impressing as Spurs weigh up move
Tottenham have not yet lodged a formal bid for El Khannouss, which makes the situation one to watch closely in the final stretch of the window.
The Leicester City man has enjoyed a bright start to life in the Championship, registering two assists in his first two games of the season, and his performances have only strengthened the interest surrounding him.
