Tottenham Hotspur’s fight for survival could yet hinge on more than just performances, with new data suggesting Spurs’ struggles this season may not be entirely self-inflicted.

Tottenham Hotspur will surely need some luck during the rest of this season if they are to get out of the relegation zone.

The Lilywhites can mathematically be safe, but their fate is no longer in their hands as they sit in the bottom three, two points adrift of safety with five games to go.

Should Spurs win all of their games and their relegation rivals match their run, Tottenham will be a Championship side next campaign.

Tottenham named unluckiest Premier League side in 2025/26 data study

BB Sport News has now crunched the numbers and ranked the unluckiest sides in the Premier League this season.

Their report ranked each team on their points total versus expected points, the cumulative number of weeks lost to injuries, and the number of times they have hit the woodwork throughout the season, to give an accurate representation of how unlucky each team has been.

After running the numbers, Tottenham were unsurprisingly top as the unluckiest side in the Premier League, receiving a score of 69.8 after each team was given a standardised score out of 100 to show their level of misfortune.

Of course, the injury crisis Spurs have had to deal with this season has played a big role in their ranking, with season-long absentees Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison contributing heavily to the total.

Spurs need more luck as West Ham contrast highlights survival fight

While Tottenham have had little luck, their relegation rivals West Ham United are at the other end of the spectrum in these rankings.

The Hammers have been ranked as the second luckiest side in the division this season, as they have barely hit the woodwork and have just 62 total weeks lost to injury.

With the relegation scrap set to go down to the wire, Tottenham will have to improve their luck if they are to beat the drop with five games to go.
