Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite inked his new deal over the summer, but David Ornstein has still discussed a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes will be keen to make some exciting January additions at Everton to add to the encouraging work done over the summer.

Just as important as adding to the squad will be keeping the best players around on Merseyside.

After all, Moyes is targeting European qualification with Everton this season after being backed by the Friedkins in the market.

Branthwaite is a player who Everton will be stern on keeping at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the foreseeable future.

Despite it being claimed that Branthwaite is happy at Everton, Ornstein has now name-dropped the centre-back once again when discussing transfers.

Branthwaite has undergone hamstring surgery in recent weeks and is still yet to play a competitive game since signing his new contract.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

There has been no timescale placed on his potential return following numerous setbacks already this term.

However, speaking to Planet Futebol, Ornstein has said Branthwaite should be Tottenham’s dream transfer.

“Jarrad Branthwaite, because I think they’ve been looking for a while to upgrade in that defensive department,” said Ornstein.”

“They’ve looked at him [Branthwaite] and he’s somebody who’s been linked with a move away from Everton even though he’s signed a new contract. I guess he’s one to watch in the future for many of the top clubs.”

Branthwaite holds a shocking injury record over recent years over recent years, with his hamstrings causing him some major issues.

Fortunately, Michael Keane and James Tarkowski have formed a strong partnership at the back for Moyes, who will be keen to see Branthwaite make a full recovery.

Everton will not entertain an exit for Branthwaite

It has already been suggested that Manchester United and Liverpool hold an interest in Branthwaite.

However, there will be no rush for the Blues to allow their star defender to leave the club on the back of inking his new deal.

Branthwaite is now under contract until 2030, which will prove costly for any interested clubs to prise him away from Merseyside.

The young defender has endured a rough year when it comes to injuries, but he will be keen to repay Everton’s faith when he is fully fit.

Ironically, Rio Ferdinand thinks Leny Yoro is better than Branthwaite following the ongoing links to Old Trafford.

When the defender does return to action, he will be able to put to bed that suggestion.
