David Ornstein is confident about what is likely to happen regarding Ange Postecoglou’s future this summer as the Australian seeks to become the first Tottenham manager since Juande Ramos to win silverware at Spurs.

Tottenham have had a disastrous season domestically, with Spurs setting a new record for their most defeats in a single Premier League season.

That is perhaps why some outlets have claimed that Postecoglou is expected to leave no matter what happens in the Europa League final.

However, a little over a week ago, Football Insider asserted that Postecoglou still has a chance to save his job if Tottenham beat Man United in Bilbao.

David Ornstein sets the record straight on Ange Postecoglou

Amidst the contrasting updates regarding the 59-year-old’s future, David Ornstein has now revealed what his sources have told him about the possibility of Tottenham Hotspur changing managers in the summer.

The Athletic reporter asserted that Spurs are likely to replace Postecoglou irrespective of the result of the final, with the Tottenham hierarchy believing that the Aussie has not got as much out of the current squad as he should have.

When asked if he can see Ange Postecoglou remaining at Tottenham, Ornstein said on Sky Sports Back Pages podcast: “I think it’s unlikely. I think the direction of travel is for Spurs to make a change in the summer, irrespective of the outcome of this match.

“I do take the point on the emotion, and we saw what happened with Manchester United [under Erik ten Hag], although that may serve as a warning why clubs shouldn’t repeat what they did.

“I just think it’s got so bad for Tottenham in the Premier League this season, and they feel that they’ve invested heavily into the squad. Yes, there are a lot of young players. Yes, there have been injuries. But the view of the club seems to be that he hasn’t got what he should’ve out of the team this season, and that’s putting it politely.

“And therefore, whatever happens in this Europa League campaign, I think that a new coach coming in over the summer is a very high possibility.”

League form is a much better measure of progress than cups

While there is no doubt that the game is about winning trophies, particularly for a club of Tottenham’s size, luck has a much bigger role to play in cup runs than in league campaigns.

A team’s league form is a much better indication of where they stand, as sides tend to get found out over a 38-game season.

Tottenham have only got progressively worse in the Premier League since Ange Postecoglou joined two years ago, and there have been no signs of improvement over recent months despite the return of key players from injury.
