Tottenham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has been a major disappointment since his move in the summer transfer window, and Roberto De Zerbi might have to drop him against Manchester United.
Spurs spent significantly during the summer as they looked to overhaul De Zerbi's squad following a disappointing few years.
Fernandes was one of the marquee additions for the North London club, joining from relegated West Ham.
Tottenham reportedly paid in the region of £85 million to secure the signature of the Portuguese midfielder, which was a club record at the time.
So far this season, Fernandes has started three games in the Premier League, playing in all five matches.
The 22-year-old is yet to produce a goal or an assist in the league, and it's rare that he even plays 90 minutes.
De Zerbi has a big decision to make on Fernandes following some of the comments he made in his press conference ahead of the game against Manchester United.
The Tottenham manager stressed that Fernandes is one of the best in the team, but he needs time to understand the club.
"Fernandes is a great player. Maybe one of the best in our team. He needs time to understand the club.
"He needs time to come inside the environment of the club.
"I have big confidence in him and all the confidence of the club but he needs time. We have to give him time."
It's clear that De Zerbi has some doubts about Fernandes in terms of his current performances, even though he still believes he's one of the best players in the squad.
A spell out of the team might be what Fernandes needs in order to reach the levels expected of him, especially after he was hooked after just 45 minutes against Aston Villa last time out.
De Zerbi has options
De Zerbi does have multiple options to choose from in the number 10 position against Manchester United. Mohammed Kudus has recently returned from injury and could play there, despite usually being deployed on the right-hand side.
Savio was brought in to play on that right-hand side, which meant Kudus was on the bench against Aston Villa before coming on in the second half.
De Zerbi has also been talking up Conor Gallagher and his recent performances, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him starting at number 10.
There are plenty of options for the Tottenham manager, meaning Fernandes doesn't need to be invincible.
