Fulham are set to beat Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in the transfer race for highly rated Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb.
The 22-year-old’s future has been the centre of rife speculation during the January transfer window having not featured for Pep Guardiola’s side since the start of December. The winger is a product of the academy system at the Etihad Stadium but is now set to take the next steps of his career in the capital.
Bobb’s last minutes came in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Brentford with the forward picking up an injury in that fixture. However, his lengthy absence has fuelled rumours of a potential exit with the player having fallen even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth.
Tottenham and Newcastle United set to lose transfer race to Fulham
Spurs have strengthened in central midfield and at full back but remain in the market for another forward addition for Thomas Frank following an injury to Mohammed Kudus that is set to keep the wide man out of action until April. TeamTALK also claim that Newcastle United were considering a move for Bobb, alongside Spurs.
It is, however, Fulham who appear to have won the race. In an update on Monday, Sky Sports transfer specialist Florian Plettenberg wrote: “Understand Oscar #Bobb and Fulham have reached a full verbal agreement. Final details with Man City remain to be sorted. The move is expected to be a permanent deal. Transfer fee in the region of £35–40m. DONE DEAL soon.”
It’s a boost for Marco Silva with Adama Traore still linked with a move to work under former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo at West Ham. Fulham could also see Harry Wilson leave the club as a free agent this summer with interest from several Premier League clubs.
Pep Guardiola hails Oscar Bobb workrate
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has remained tight-lipped about the player’s future and current absence from the squad. He recently said: "He says he's not fit, so he's not fit."
In October, Guardiola heaped praise on Bobb and his work rate, in words that will be music to the ears of potential suitors. After a win over Brentford, Guardiola said: “Oscar defensively is a machine, he helped us a lot and in the final third. His one-v-one is really good and he made good decisions. I’m really pleased he played good.
“I will encourage him to be more incisive and when he goes one on one, two v two, he can create really big situations. He made an incredible pass to Phil which was a clear chance on the penalty spot that he should have got on target. In general, he was really, really good in that 1st half and defensively, offensively - in all aspects and he is a player we trust a lot.”
