And then Mauricio Pochettino appeared on BBC’s new series The Football Interview - and suddenly the conversation has shifted.
His comments were revealing, ambitious, and for Tottenham, impossible to ignore. If Spurs do ever reach a point where they need to consider life after Frank, there may be no better candidate than the man who once transformed the club.
Pochettino wants a Premier League return - and hasn’t closed the door on Spurs
Pochettino was unusually open about his ambitions. Now coaching the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup, he made it clear that he watches the Premier League “a lot,” believes it remains “the best league in the world,” and admitted plainly:
“Of course I would love to come back again.”
But what will interest Spurs fans most is how warmly he spoke about his time in north London. He praised Daniel Levy, reflected proudly on the Champions League run, and described himself as “grateful” for the chance to manage the club. There was no tension, no bitterness - only admiration and unfinished business.
He also revealed the two things he still wants to achieve before the end of his managerial career: winning the Premier League and winning the Champions League.
He genuinely believes he came close with Spurs. And he didn’t hide his desire to try again.
Those aren’t the words of someone who considers his Tottenham chapter closed. Those are the words of someone who still sees the Premier League - and potentially Spurs - in his future.
Tottenham Should Move for Pochettino
This isn’t about disrespecting Thomas Frank. He’s stabilised the club, modernised the structure, and brought a calmness to Spurs that was badly needed. But the ceiling remains unclear - and the fans know it.
Pochettino, meanwhile, brings:
world-class pedigree
emotional connection
tactical identity
Premier League experience
a belief he can win major trophies
He wouldn’t need time to understand Spurs. He wouldn’t need a bedding-in period. He would return to a club he already elevated once - only now with even more experience behind him.
Frank may still succeed. He may still evolve this team.
But if Tottenham ever decide they need a proven, elite manager to take the club forward, one who wants the Premier League and still loves Spurs…
Mauricio Pochettino is the dream replacement.
