Drew Spence spoke of excitement for Sunday’s highly anticipated north London derby at Brisbane Road on Sunday.
“It’s always exciting and such a big occasion,” she told us, looking ahead to the encounter in E10. “The fans also make it so special to be a part of, so it’s a great game to play in.”
This weekend’s clash with the Gunners is set to be one of the most exciting north London derbies in recent history with both sides level on points (15) in the Barclays Women’s Super League table – and electric atmosphere is to be expected at Brisbane Road.
“I think for any player, to play in a London derby is massive, but to play in a north London derby is an even bigger occasion,” she added. “This is the kind of game at the start of the season that you always look forward to.
“You obviously want to be the best team in London, and the derby gives you that opportunity. The atmosphere is always a little bit louder, and everything just means that little bit more - it’s exciting.
“Our fanbase have been amazing this season so far – whether that’s home or away. They all travel with us, and we can always hear them and they’re always giving us so much support, so it’ll be important to hopefully get a good result for them, especially in this weekend’s north London derby.”
While it was a disappointing outcome against London City Lionesses last weekend, it has been a positive start to our seventh season in England’s top flight – currently at fifth in the standings from the first eight games – and the 34-year-old is eager to bounce back in this weekend’s north London derby.
“Of course, it was disappointing last weekend but we’re fairly new in our journey and we’ve made good strides so far this season,” Drew told us. “We’re going to have ups and downs throughout the season, but this is the perfect game to bounce back.”
