One Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s stock has risen so high that he is worth three times what Spurs hold him for in the summer window.

During the summer window, Tottenham Hotspur spent over £100million on new signings as they looked to strengthen their squad.

The bulk of that money went to the purchase of attacking players, with Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons combining to cost £105million.

Spurs also sanctioned a few outgoings, with Heung-min Son the standout departure following his ten-year stay and the Europa League trophy he delivered to N17.

Among the other departures was Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, whose £17million obligation to buy clause was met by Marseille following his initial loan move.

Marseille want a sizeable fee for Hojbjerg

Sportmediaset are now reporting that the 30-year-old who has impressed in France is attracting interest from Italian side Juventus.

The former Tottenham midfielder has become a regular for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, featuring 48 times across all competitions and popping up with eight goals in that time.

His impressive displays have caught the attention of Juventus, who are keen to bolster their midfield in January.

Discussions are understood to have taken place between Marseille and Juventus, with it revealed that a ‘monstrous fee’ of €60m (£51m) is what Marseille are demanding to sell the Dane.

Should Spurs have sold Pierre Emile Hojbjerg?

There is no report of Tottenham having any clauses inserted in Hojbjerg’s switch to France, and that is quite understandable given his age.

He is edging away from his peak years, but the fact that he is attracting interest from Juventus shows that the Danish midfielder is still capable of doing it in the top leagues.

Spurs, however, have since moved on from Hojbjerg and have Rodrigo Bentancur, Palhinha, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma as options in that role.

The Lilywhites do not need another ball-winning old-school midfielder, considering the profiles they already have, making the sale of Hojbjerg understandable.

Marseille’s demands, however, are reported to have caused Juve to drop their interest, with claims that talks between the two clubs have not gone beyond a simple enquiry.

It is understood that the French outfit itself does not want to sell the 30-year-old.
