We’ve got under two weeks to go until the Premier League makes its welcome return. It seemed like things had only just got going in the 2026/27 campaign before the extended three-week international break started, and fans of sides from England’s top tier will be eager to see their clubs back in action once things get back to normal next month.
So far this season we’ve seen Manchester City storm their way to the top of the table with maximum points from their opening five matches - although certain revelations over the past few days may well have taken the wind out of their sails. It’s also been a strong start for Arsenal and Brighton, who lead the chasing pack in the early stages of the new season.

Today’s rumours round-up begins at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal went into the international break in less than ideal circumstances - they were thrashed 3-0 away to Brighton. According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Gunners are on the hunt for a new centre-back, and have taken a shine to Como’s rising star Jacobo Ramon.
The report suggests that the Gunners have already “made a move” to sign the ex-Real Madrid prospect, although it’s highly likely that any such ‘move’ would be of an informal nature. It’s claimed that he’s high up on the north London club’s shortlist, and that is likely to be treated as a priority deal going forward.
The 3AM Verdict: The Spain U21 international is widely regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in world football, and has played an important role in Como’s flying start to the Serie A season. He’d be an excellent signing for the Gunners although, with so many centre-backs already on the books, it’s hard to see him getting much gametime once the likes of William Saliba and Piero Hincapie are fully fit.
Spurs chase rising Bundesliga talent
We’ll stay in north London for our second story, where Tottenham fans will be doing all in their power to avoid looking at the Premier League table. They’re currently rock bottom of the league despite a summer of lavish spending, and are in dire need of some attacking firepower after struggling for goals in their opening five league matches. If Team Talk are to be believed, they’ve now got a new striker on their radar.
Spurs are supposedly “big admirers” of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Younes Ebnoutalib, whose flying start to the Bundeliga season saw him earn his first senior caps under Germany boss Jurgen Klopp. He’s scored four goals in as many games for his club so far this season, including a stunning hat-trick against Union Berlin. Everton and Brighton are also credited with an interest in the rising star.
The 3AM Verdict: These days in football, if you’re a striker and haven’t ‘made it’ by the time you hit 20, you tend to get rather brutally written off. At the grand old age of 23, Ebnoutalib is now enjoying a real breakout campaign. Should he continue to bang the goals in between now and January, Spurs could bag themselves a great signing to challenge their current misfiring crop of forwards.
Everton ‘confident’ of landing £80m sales boost
We’ll finish things up at Everton, whose encouragingly solid start to the season saw them head into the international break unbeaten in all competitions after a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. A new report from Football Insider claims that while the Toffees aren’t looking to sell star defender Jarrad Branthwaite, they are “confident” that his sale will eventually net them a mega £80m fee.
The report goes on to suggest that this asking price could even rise, if the England international is able to continue his strong form and put his injury concerns behind him. In recent years, Manchester United and Chelsea have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old gem, along with Everton’s fierce local rivals Liverpool.
The 3AM Verdict: Everton will know that if Branthwaite keeps improving, they’ll have to cash-in eventually. They certainly won’t want that to benefit Liverpool, and there will likely be plenty of other interested parties waiting to snap him up. While he wouldn’t qualify as a ‘pure profit’ sale, that £80m or so would do wonders for the club’s financial situation. If he has a strong, injury-free season, we strongly expect he’ll be on his way next summer.
