Everton manager David Moyes should seriously consider bringing back a different formation when his side welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

Everton are up against a Tottenham side who have been quite inconsistent this term, although they’re sitting above the Toffees in sixth place.

Thomas Frank’s men were in Champions League action last night and played out a goalless draw away at Monaco.

So, Everton will be much fresher, and the Opta supercomputer does expect the Toffees to beat Spurs.

Although, David Moyes may want to consider changing his formation due to his concerning record against Frank.

David Moyes’ poor record vs Thomas Frank calls for change in formation

Moyes has come up against Frank eight times throughout his career, and interestingly, he’s lost five of those meetings.

The Scotsman managed to win two during his tenure as West Ham United manager, and in one of those games, he was forced to play a back-three formation.

MORE EVERTON STORIES

Back in January 2023, Moyes’ side went away to Brentford and won 1-0 playing a 3-5-2 system, with Said Benrahma netting a 73rd-minute winner.

The 62-year-old will certainly have to consider implementing that same system this weekend, as clearly the 4-3-3 approach doesn’t match up well to Frank’s sides, usually.

The only question is, do Everton have the personnel to play it after Jarrad Branthwaite’s injury setback?

Everton’s potential starting XI vs Tottenham

If Everton were to line up with a three, it’d force Jake O’Brien to come back in as a centre-back, with James Garner playing the wing-back role.

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane make up the rest of the back three, and Vitali Mykolenko is deployed as the left wing-back.

Jack Grealish returns to the team after missing the game against Manchester City due to Premier League loan rules.

Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye could operate in a more central role just in behind Barry, who should get the nod after Beto’s unconvincing display at the Etihad.
