Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to hold discussions with Fabio Paratici after he has made it clear that he still wants to be handed a full-time role despite Daniel Levy's departure from Hotspur Way earlier this month, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed on the latest episode of our Market Madness podcast.
After giving head coach Thomas Frank the opportunity to splash the cash during the summer transfer window, with Mohammed Kudus proving to be the most expensive acquisition following his £55million switch from Premier League counterparts West Ham United, Spurs have been making adjustments behind the scenes.
Levy was removed from his role as executive chairman a matter of days after the deadline to secure reinforcements, allowing Peter Charrington to be installed as Tottenham's non-executive chairman, and that has resulted in there being uncertainty over whether Paratici will be handed a significant role in north London.
Paratici Eager to be Handed a Full-Time Role at Spurs
Paratici is set to enter talks with the Lewis family over his Tottenham future, according to GMS sources, after he has continued working for last season's Europa League winners as a consultant since the summer transfer window despite trusted ally Levy heading through the exit door.
Although the Italian has stayed with Spurs after accepting an 18-month suspended prison sentence as part of a settlement agreement following his involvement in the financial scandal at former employers Juventus, he is still waiting for clarification over whether his role will change.
GMS sources have been informed that Paratici's preference is to stick to Levy's initial plan by securing a full-time position, having initially agreed to lead recruitment from October onwards, but chief executive Vinai Venkatesham will play a key role in deciding whether to continue on that path.
The 53-year-old resigned from his managing director of football position when his appeal against a two-and-a-half-year ban for alleged financial irregularities was rejected by Italy's highest sports court, only to be handed a route back to the north Londoners when his suspension came to an end in July.
Paratici's suspended jail sentence allows him to work without a legal case lingering over him, GMS sources have learned, but there was no admission of guilt and he is keen to continue his relationship with Tottenham.
Paratici Told Industry Insiders He Would Make Return
GMS sources have been told that the Lewis family are preparing to make Paratici's ongoing remit clear in discussions, which comes after he had initially been informing industry insiders that he would be returning to Tottenham before the transfer window slammed shut earlier this month.
Levy's departure from the north Londoners came as a surprise to many and his return to a full-time position was cast into doubt after the exit resulted in Joe Lewis' daughter Vivienne, son Charles and grandson-in-law Nick Beucher taking on a more active role behind the scenes at Spurs.
Paratici wants Tottenham to stick to the agreement he reached with Levy, which would enable him to play a crucial role in their recruitment drive as preparations are made for upcoming transfer windows, but GMS sources understand that his conversations with the Lewis family will dictate whether his wish is granted.
