Tottenham Hotspur are being forced to remain patient as they aim to discover whether they have done enough to convince Angel Gomes to head to Hotspur Way as the Lille star prepares to make a final decision on who to join when he becomes a free agent, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou kept his promise of winning silverware in his second season at the helm, with the north Londoners beating Manchester United in the Europa League final earlier this week to end a 17-year wait for a trophy, and plans are being put in place to welcome reinforcements.

Kevin Danso will become a permanent member of Tottenham's squad, thanks to there being a £20.9million obligation to buy the central defender at the end of his initial loan spell from Lens, but there is a desire to improve their options in the middle of the park when the transfer window reopens for business.

Spurs Remain Patient in Bid to Recruit Gomes

England international preparing to confirm preferred landing spot

Tottenham are playing the waiting game in their pursuit of a deal for Gomes, according to GMS sources, but chairman Daniel Levy and members of the recruitment department will soon find out whether their attempts to turn his head since January have paid off as he edges towards confirming his preferred destination.

The England international has been pinpointed as an attractive option by Spurs and a host of other sides across Europe due to him preparing to become a free agent when his Lille contract, which allows him to pocket in the region of £12,000-per-week, expires at the end of next month.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham are keen to discover whether their groundwork is going to be enough to land Gomes, who has enjoyed a fruitful spell in his current surroundings, and there is an internal confidence that they have put themselves in a strong position to see off stiff competition.

West Ham United have been among Spurs' domestic counterparts looking to lure the central midfielder back to his homeland, but the east Londoners were left frustrated when he decided to snub the opportunity to join after a £100,000-per-week deal was pushed into his direction earlier this year.

Tottenham are hopeful that being able to offer Champions League action will have boosted their chances of being able to sway Gomes towards completing a switch, GMS sources have learned, but he has been determined to carefully assess his options instead of rushing into making a final decision.

Gomes Still Has Opportunity to Stay in France

Midfielder could opt to join current employers' domestic rivals

GMS sources have been told that Marseille could prove to be among Tottenham's biggest competitors to secure Gomes' signature as the Ligue 1 outfit, managed by former Brighton & Hove Albion chief Roberto De Zerbi, have put together a strong offer in a last-ditch attempt to convince him to remain in France.

The 24-year-old has been described as 'phenomenal' by journalist Alex Turk and showcased his quality with Les Phoceens' domestic rivals Lille, resulting in there being a desire for them to tempt him to the south coast as they prepare for a return to the Champions League in the 2025/26 campaign.

But Gomes has had a host of proposals coming his way during the final stages of his time at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, GMS sources understand, leading to Tottenham and Marseille being among the sides having to wait patiently to discover whether they have come out on top in the race for an agreement.

GMS sources recently revealed that Spurs are increasingly confident that they will recruit Marc Guehi, with the Crystal Palace centre-back interested in hearing what they have to say about a potential switch across the capital, but they do not want their spending to stop there during the summer.
