Tottenham Hotspur have held discussions with Manchester City in a bid to discover whether it would be possible to lure Nathan Ake to Hotspur Way as they go in search of adding another defensive presence before the summer transfer window slams shut, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Spurs head coach Thomas Frank has splashed the cash to bolster the squad he inherited from predecessor Ange Postecoglou, with Mohammed Kudus being the most expensive arrival following his £55million switch from West Ham United last month, but there is an appetite to secure further reinforcements.

South Korea international Heung-min Son's departure for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC earlier this month, in a deal worth more than £20million, has resulted in Tottenham heading towards deadline day with additional funds as they aim to build on clinching silverware last season.

Spurs Hold Talks Over Last-Gasp Ake Swoop

Tottenham have made an enquiry to sign Ake, according to GMS sources, after influential figures behind the scenes saw last weekend's victory over Manchester City as an ideal opportunity to hold discussions with their counterparts over what it would take to strike an eleventh-hour agreement.

The Champions League-winning central defender has entered the final two years of his £160,000-per-week contract at the Etihad Stadium and, despite coming on as a substitute during his current employers' defeat to Spurs, the north Londoners were eager to gauge whether an offer would be entertained before Monday's 7pm deadline.

GMS sources have been informed that Tottenham have embarked on a wide-reaching search for a new option at the heart of the backline, even though they have started the Premier League campaign with back-to-back clean sheets, and key decision-makers opened face-to-face talks over Ake when they were in attendance for the victory over Manchester City.

Frank is a firm admirer of the 30-year-old, who has been described as 'incredible' by Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola, and he will be tasked with providing captain Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven with fresh competition for a regular starting berth if he is given the green light to head to Spurs.

Tottenham also held further conversations about landing Savinho from Manchester City while chairman Daniel Levy and members of the recruitment department were in attendance at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, GMS sources have learned, but they are facing an uphill battle to secure the Brazilian.

Frank Has a Serious Interest in Recruiting Ake

GMS sources have been told that Ake is of serious interest to Tottenham, with his versatility meaning that he would also be capable of challenging Destiny Udogie for the left-back spot, and they will use the final days of the transfer window to consider upping the ante in their pursuit.

The Netherlands international has been on Manchester City's books since August 2020, when he sealed a £40million switch from domestic counterparts Bournemouth, but Spurs are tempted to hand him the opportunity to embark on a fresh challenge as Frank continues aiming to improve his options.

Tottenham are looking for market opportunities and have been seeing the Sky Blues as a side who could be prepared to do business due to Guardiola not wanting to have an inflated squad, GMS sources understand, which led to them also getting in contact over Jack Grealish and James McAtee's availability earlier in the window.

GMS sources recently revealed that the north Londoners are considering a move for Bilal El Khannouss, who has found himself in the Championship after suffering relegation with Leicester City last term, highlighting that they are in the market for creativity in the final third of the pitch as well.
