Tottenham Hotspur now appear to hold a notable advantage over Newcastle United in the race for a highly-rated Club Brugge midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur have long been linked with a move for Aleksandar Stankovic, with interest dating back to the summer of 2024.

The 20-year-old’s standout performances for Club Brugge in Belgium have continued to catch the eye of Spurs, who have retained a firm interest in the midfielder as his influence has grown.

Tottenham, however, are not alone in their pursuit of Stankovic, with Newcastle United and Inter Milan also keen on the Club Brugge man as attention around his future intensifies.

Calciomercato have now shared an update on Tottenham’s latest efforts to sign Stankovic, acknowledging Spurs’ long-term interest before stating that Fabio Paratici is a strong admirer of the midfielder.

It is believed that the Tottenham sporting director is leading the club’s pursuit, with Spurs having already made contact to enquire about Stankovic and explore the conditions of a potential deal.

Tottenham will, however, face competition from elsewhere, with Inter Milan viewed as a significant threat due to their €23 million (£19.7 million) buy-back clause, which gives them a degree of control over the situation.

Why Spurs may hold the edge over Newcastle United

Spurs are also thought to have an advantage over rival clubs thanks to their financial strength as a Premier League side, a factor that could yet cause Inter to hesitate.

That said, Tottenham’s chances hinge on whether Inter decide to activate the buy-back clause and then make Stankovic available on the market.
