Tottenham Hotspur have remained determined to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and are adamant that the Nottingham Forest star will complete a switch to Hotspur Way despite being threatened with legal action, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed on the latest episode of our Market Madness podcast.
Spurs have not been afraid to splash the cash since Thomas Frank's appointment as their new head coach last month, leading to Mohammed Kudus sealing a £55million move from West Ham United, and there is still an appetite to wrap up further business in preparation for a season which will include Champions League action.
Spurs Still Optimistic of Signing Gibbs-White
North Londoners need to hold discussions over attacking midfielder
Romano has confirmed that Tottenham are still optimistic about their chances of landing Gibbs-White even though they have left Nottingham Forest furious with their attempts to quickly get the deal over the line. Speaking on the latest episode of GMS' Market Madness podcast, the transfer expert said:
"Nottingham Forest are not happy at all with their approach for the player. They mentioned that was not something they expected from Tottenham. Also, how they directly approached the player to inform him about the medical and all the formal steps without having any formal exchange with Nottingham Forest has led to a situation that is quite tense between the two clubs. The medical was booked on Friday last week.
"Now, Tottenham remain confident about their chances of signing the player. But, obviously, now this is a legal topic. They need to have discussions directly with Nottingham Forest to find the solution.
"Of course, it changes the timing of the deal. Tottenham's perfect plan was probably to sign Kudus and Gibbs-White in 24 or 48 hours. It is now going to take a bit longer, but they remain intent on signing the player. That is still their plan, so let's see how it continues on the legal side. But, for sure, Tottenham still want Morgan Gibbs-White."
Nottingham Forest have threatened Tottenham and Gibbs-White's agent with legal action over what they believe was an unlawful approach and a breach of confidentiality regarding the £60million release clause written into his contract, but the north Londoners still have him in their sights as a marquee signing.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Morgan Gibbs-White won four duels and registered two shots during Nottingham Forest's victory over Tottenham Hotspur in April
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who is on a deal which allows him to pocket £80,000-per-week in his current surroundings, has been left in a complicated situation and is unaware of where his long-term future lies ahead of a season where he will be looking to secure a place in England's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
GMS sources recently revealed that Nottingham Forest are actively working to persuade Gibbs-White to commit his long-term future to the club by penning fresh terms, but Tottenham are hoping to resolve the situation this week as they want him to be among Frank's options before the new campaign gets underway.
