Tottenham Hotspur have had a busy summer window, and they are still looking to do more business by adding to their forward line.
Roberto De Zerbi has already added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali to his squad for a combined fee of around £235m, but the club are still keen to make more additions after two consecutive 17th-placed finishes in the Premier League.
Dejan Kulusevski and Xavi Simons are expected to be long-term absentees with knee problems, leaving the number ten position up for grabs in north London, and reports had suggested the club were eyeing an addition in that area.
Romano: Spurs Not Looking at Vergara
According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur hold an interest in Napoli playmaker Antonio Vergara for this summer window.
The 23-year-old, who has been described as 'special', has attracted the attention of a number of clubs in Europe after some impressive performances in Serie A, and Spurs were reportedly looking at a deal to take him to the Premier League.
However, speaking in his latest YouTube video, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there is no truth to that rumour, and Spurs are instead looking at a different option to improve their attack.
"I also wanted to clarify that the links between Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Vergara are not true," he said.
"Vergara is not a target for Tottenham. Vergara is signing a new contract at Napoli. It will be signed soon. He will get a salary rise, and he was never a target.
"But don't forget that Tottenham want to sign Savinho. The player they want for the winger position is Savinho. So let's see what's going to happen there."
Tottenham Have Attacking Options
While Simons and Kulusevski are likely to be unavailable at the start of the season, De Zerbi still has a number of options available in attack even without any signings.
James Maddison is the obvious option to play as a number ten, but Pape Matar Sarr, Conor Gallagher, Mathys Tel, and Mohammed Kudus are all also more than capable, which means a signing in that central role isn't really a necessity.
Wingers are far more likely to arrive, and it makes sense that Savinho is someone they are keen on after showing an interest in him last summer too. Vergara won't be moving to Tottenham, or anywhere else for that matter, this summer, and Spurs are still ready to bolster their attack.
