The January transfer window is quickly approaching and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that both Liverpool and Tottenham are tracking a young forward.
The Reds had a record-breaking transfer window in the summer as they spent big on bringing in the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, but they have had a difficult campaign so far and could look to strengthen further in the winter.
Spurs, on the other hand, also had a busy window and signed Kota Takai, Joao Palhinha, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani, but have been dealing with a number of injury issues, leaving Thomas Frank looking for more reinforcements.
Romano: Spurs and Liverpool Eyeing Diomande
One player who is of interest to both clubs is RB Leipzig sensation Yan Diomande, who has lit up the Bundesliga this season with some impressive performances, having joined from Leganes last summer.
The 19-year-old, who has been described as 'one of the best young talents in the world', has registered four goals and two assists so far this season, but his performances have seen the German side slap an £88m price tag on his head already.
Romano, who was writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, was asked about interest in the Ivory Coast international from the Premier League, with Spurs and Liverpool both name-checked, and he revealed that the links are genuine, but nothing is concrete yet.
"There are at least 4/5 clubs following the player. Nothing is concrete at the moment, but interest from several clubs is genuine."
Diomande is capable of playing on both wings, and has electric pace and great trickery which would undoubtedly make him an excellent options for both sides.
Both Spurs and Liverpool are keen to bring in a left-winger, and Diomande's capability to play there and bring entertainment and quality to the side will surely be a big help, although the price tag is probably too high for both sides currently.
Tottenham and Liverpool Need a Left Winger
While both clubs have got plenty of quality in attack, the left-wing position is a bit of a problem area for them.
Liverpool currently have Cody Gakpo as first-choice with youngster Rio Ngumoha as the back-up option, while Florian Wirtz has also played in that position this season. But the German is at his best as a number ten, and Gakpo has been largely poor this season, suggesting he needs competition for his place.
Spurs, meanwhile, lost captain Son Heung-Min in the summer and didn't replace him directly, which has seen Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert used as a left-winger this season. But none of them have impressed, and a more natural option in that role could help Thomas Frank's setup.
Leipzig are well known for being tough negotiators, but if a deal can be agreed then it will have to be at a fair price, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.
