Fabrizio Romano has revealed what new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank thinks about Cristian Romero and what Daniel Levy is anticipating amidst intense transfer interest from Atletico Madrid.

Most Tottenham Hotspur fans will already be tired of the Cristian Romero transfer saga, which has been rumbling on for several months.

Romero sent a cryptic message praising Ange Postecoglou as soon as Frank’s appointment was confirmed, which is perhaps a signal of the Argentine’s transfer intention.

Atletico are seemingly pulling out all the stops to land the centre-back, with Diego Simeone even publicly admitting his admiration for Romero earlier this week, which would have likely not gone down well at Tottenham.

Daniel Levy and Tottenham are determined to keep Cristian Romero

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Atletico are extremely keen on taking the 27-year-old to the Metropolitano Stadium, but the journalist suggested that it is difficult to see the move happening this summer.

The Italian transfer expert explained that Frank values the Argentine’s leadership qualities and suggested that it will be extremely challenging for the La Liga side to convince Daniel Levy to sell the centre-back.

When asked about Romero’s proposed move to the Spanish capital, Romano told GiveMeSport: “Atletico Madrid loves the player, so they would love to bring the player to the club one day. Simeone is also a big fan.

“From what I understand, with Tottenham in the Champions League and a new project now with Thomas Frank, I don’t see Tottenham losing a leader like Cuti Romero this summer.

“It will be very difficult to get the player in this summer transfer window, Daniel Levy wants to keep the player at the club. From what I’m hearing, Thomas Frank sees Cuti Romero as a crucial part of the squad from a technical perspective but also as a leader.”

Should Spurs risk Romero running down his contract?

While Tottenham may not entertain Atletico’s offers for the centre-back, the North London club will find it very challenging to convince the former Juventus man to commit to a new long-term deal.

It has been reported by a few sources that Levy will cash in on Romero if he does not sign a contract extension this summer.
