Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham have followed up on their failed efforts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze with a rejected £60m bid for another number 10 target.

It has been a disastrous window for Tottenham Hotspur when it comes to the number 10 position. First, Spurs failed in their pursuit of landing Gibbs-White despite triggering his release clause.

To make matters worse, James Maddison then picked up a shocking ACL injury in pre-season, leaving him on the treatment table for much of the 2025/26 season. Dejan Kulusevski is also expected to be out of action until 2026.

Tottenham finally looked to have turned a corner when they came inches from signing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, only to have Arsenal hijack the deal at the last minute.

Now, Spurs have suffered yet another transfer setback, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham see £60m bid for Nico Paz rejected by Como

It was reported last week that Nico Paz has become Tottenham’s most achievable target in the number ten position. In fact, Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Spurs had a bid of €40m (£34.6m) rejected for Paz, but were expected to return with another.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Tottenham have done just that, sending a €70m (£60.7m) package to Como, only for the Serie A side to send it straight back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Unfortunately for Thomas Frank and Spurs, Paz has no desire to move to N17. That’s because Real Madrid have a buyback clause on their former youngster, and they intend to trigger it in the future. Los Blancos were even willing to match Tottenham’s bid in the case that Paz did greenlight the move.

As things stand, Madrid have a €10m buyback clause that can be triggered in 2026, but the Spanish giants will compensate Como in the future.

Romano wrote: “Tottenham bid worth €70m package for Nico Páz has been turned down tonight. Páz wants to stay at Como with view on Real Madrid future + Real were gonna match any proposal in any case. Real have €10m buy-back clause in 2026 but will compensate Como in future.”

Who else have Spurs been linked to in the number 10 role?

As we approach the final week of the summer transfer window, Tottenham appear no closer in their search for a new number 10 to fill the void in Thomas Frank’s squad.

Multiple reports have claimed that Tottenham are upping their efforts to sign Maghnes Akliouche following the failed pursuit of Eze.
