Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Arsenal target Eberechi Eze, according to Fabrizio Romano, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
Spurs' summer transfer window plans may have changed in recent weeks after it was confirmed that James Maddison has suffered a serious knee injury. Tottenham failed with a move to sign Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in the window before he signed a new contract, so it's been clear since the start of the window that a new player in this position was a priority.
Now Maddison has been ruled out for a significant period, Spurs could be even more desperate to add a new attacking midfielder to Thomas Frank's squad. Eze has been a target for Arsenal throughout the summer, but Spurs are also keen to secure the signature of the England international before the window closes.
Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Remain Keen on Eze
Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that Crystal Palace star Eze remains on Tottenham's list for the summer transfer window. The Arsenal target is a player of interest to Spurs as they aim to add a number 10 before the end of the window...
"He's always been on Tottenham's list, so for sure he remains of interest."
GIVEMESPORT sources previously confirmed that Thomas Frank has already given the green light to a move for Eze during the summer window. The Crystal Palace star had a release clause earlier in the window, which has now expired, with Arsenal weighing up whether to make a move to secure his signature.
Eze's contract at Selhurst Park expires in 2027, so Palace will have a decision to make regarding his future soon. If the Eagles are unable to convince him to sign a new deal, they could be forced to cash in to avoid him leaving on a free transfer. His value is only going to decrease next summer, meaning now is when they'll likely receive the highest fee for him to depart.
It remains unclear whether Palace would be willing to offload Eze, described as 'elite' by The Guardian, but Arsenal and Tottenham could be in the race. It could be a head-to-head battle between the two north London clubs, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the race hot up over the next few weeks.
