Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie before the transfer deadline, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The North London side have reportedly approached Leverkusen with a new proposal after their initial efforts were rebuffed a few weeks ago, with talks over personal terms also ongoing.
Spurs have proposed a loan deal with an obligation to buy for around €60m (£52m), matching Hincapie’s release clause.
The Ecuador international is believed to be pushing to leave Leverkusen in the final days of the summer window and has several suitors in the Premier League, as Romano previously revealed.
Spurs Pushing to Sign Piero Hincapie
Romano, writing on X, revealed that Tottenham have intensified their efforts to sign Hincapie before the deadline, with club-to-club talks ongoing over a potential loan move:
Hincapie, who joined Leverkusen from Argentinian side Talleres in the summer of 2021, has been a regular for the Bundesliga side since, making 116 appearances and scoring five goals.
He helped Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga title ever in 2023/24, as well as a German Cup, making 43 appearances during their historic campaign.
Hincapie could soon join Leverkusen’s ongoing summer exodus, with first-team stars Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, Granit Xhaka, Amine Adli and Lukas Hradecky all departing.
The 23-year-old is under contract until June 2029, having penned a fresh five-year extension in December last year.
Tottenham are anticipating a busy end to the summer transfer window, with attacking reinforcements also on the agenda for Thomas Frank.
The Lilywhites saw Arsenal hijack their pursuit of Eberechi Eze last week and are now on the lookout for an alternative, with a move for Como starlet Nico Paz also failing to materialise.
Spurs have started the season without injured James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, while former captain Son Heung-min has departed for MLS side Los Angeles FC.
After opening the campaign with wins against Burnley and Manchester City, the North London side next take on Bournemouth at home on Saturday.
