Tottenham Hotspur have made a surprise call to sign Manchester City star Jack Grealish, according to Fabrizio Romano - with Daniel Levy putting the feelers out to gauge how much a deal would cost to sign the £300,000-a-week star on a loan deal this summer.
Spurs have already landed West Ham United wide man Mohammed Kudus this window, with Danish boss Thomas Frank looking for more goals in a Tottenham side that currently boasts the likes of young stars Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert on the left-flank, whilst Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson hold the fort on the right. However, James Maddison's long-term knee injury means Kulusevski could play more centrally, prompting Kudus to fill in for him - and so there is a void in their creative ranks.
Romano: Tottenham 'Have Made Phone Call' to Sign Jack Grealish
The Italian journalist says the club have fielded out the numbers it would take to land the England star
Grealish has struggled for minutes at the Etihad Stadium over the past two seasons, only making a combined 40 Premier League appearances in the past two years, and he could be on the move.
And, as a result, the report by Romano on his YouTube channel states that although Everton are more advanced in negotiations to land the former Aston Villa winger, Tottenham have also fielded a call in recent days as Thomas Frank looks to bolster his creative ranks ahead of their Premier League and Champions League fixtures. Romano said:
"Everton are working on a deal to sign Jack Grealish. There was a call also from Tottenham in recent days to understand the situation of the player, but it was just a call - no advanced negotiations.
"From what I'm told now, Everton approached Manchester City after speaking to the agent of the player last week. Now, Everton are in talks with Manchester City for Jack Grealish - they want to try for a loan. Let's see the conditions of this loan, let's see what Jack will decide to do - but Jack Grealish is the dream target now for Everton."
Grealish would add a huge level of experience to their ranks, and creativity. A move for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White collapsed despite Tottenham activating his release clause, and so Frank clearly wants someone in that area.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Jack Grealish has four goals in 39 caps for England.
The England star may have fallen off the beaten path in recent months, but a move to north London could do him wonders if they can hijack Everton, who are seemingly at the front of the queue.
