Tottenham are exploring a late summer move for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers following Eberechi Eze’s decision to join Arsenal, GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The North London side saw their pursuit of Eze hijacked by city rivals on Wednesday, with the 27-year-old now set to join Mikel Arteta’s squad in a reported £68m deal.

Spurs have since shifted their focus onto other potential targets, including Rogers, whom Villa are not looking to sell with just over a week left in the transfer window.

Romano claims a deal to sign the £100m-rated England international is ‘almost impossible’, despite Tottenham recently making phone calls to assess Rogers’ situation:

Tottenham Eyeing Morgan Rogers as Eze Alternative

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Tottenham have identified Rogers as a potential alternative to Eze, although a deal to bring the 23-year-old to North London before the deadline remains very difficult:

“And in this case, after 10 days of negotiations, advanced negotiations, Arsenal appeared, and Tottenham lost the player.

“What happens with Tottenham now? They started making some calls today already to try and understand the situation for new players to add to their squad.

“For example, I can tell you that one of the dream targets they have at Tottenham internally is Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa. But it's seen as a very difficult deal because Villa don't want to lose the player.

“So people in the industry believe that this deal is almost impossible for Morgan Rogers, but I can guarantee you that Tottenham are thinking internally about him as a perfect candidate.”

Rogers enjoyed an exceptional 2024/25 campaign at Villa Park, as he registered 19 goal contributions in 37 Premier League appearances and was named PFA Young Player of the Year this week.

The 23-year-old has blossomed into one of Europe’s most exciting attacking midfield talents under Unai Emery’s guidance and was rewarded with a new contract less than 12 months ago, running until June 2030.

Tottenham are on the lookout for late attacking reinforcements following former captain Son Heung-min’s departure to MLS side Los Angeles FC and James Maddison’s long-term setback.

The England international sustained an ACL injury in a pre-season friendly earlier this month and could be absent for the entire 2025/26 campaign.
