Tottenham are looking to raid the Italian market to upgrade their midfield unit.

Tottenham Hotspur narrowly avoided the disaster of relegation on the final day of the season, and now head coach Roberto De Zerbi is pushing to add many new players to his squad in order to ensure they’re not in this situation once again next season.

The North Londoners have already agreed contracts with both defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson to join on free transfers from Bournemouth and Liverpool, respectively, but now they are ready to start working on targets further up the pitch. Spurs need someone capable of linking the defence with the attack. They are clearly lacking a controlling midfielder who can operate in tight spaces and pick out key passes.

Recent reports have linked Tottenham with Fiorentina midfielder Nicolo Fagioli. The North London club have been keeping tabs on him for quite some time as they look to rebuild their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Fiorentina’s valuation of key midfielder emerges amid Tottenham interest

Nicolo Fagioli was one of the rare bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Fiorentina. He registered two goals and three assists in 33 Serie A appearances, while also delivering some notable performances in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Fiorentina are understood to view the Italian international as a key player, but also know they won’t be in a position to reject bids if they receive a substantial offer. As such, according to a report from Corriere della Sera, Fiorentina have set a valuation between €25-30m for Fagioli, who earns €1.8m annually after tax.

Nicolo Fagioli would improve Tottenham’s midfield unit

As the 25-year-old earns €1.8m net per year, La Viola fears he could be easily lured away with a bigger salary offer. Described by Max Allegri as ‘the best Italian midfielder’, Fagioli is admired by Spurs boss De Zerbi. He can play in several positions across midfield, and his technical quality, work rate, energy and experience make him a smart fit in De Zerbi’s possession-based system.

Yves Bissouma’s contract expires at the end of June and is set to depart on a free transfer from N17. Someone of Fagioli’s quality and experience would be an upgrade over Bissouma, whilst adding competition within the squad. Plus, the ex-Juventus man’s versatility would be appreciated by De Zerbi in N17. As a deep-lying playmaker, he can solve a key problem in Tottenham’s midfield.

A price between €25-30m for Fagioli should be affordable for Tottenham seeking to rebuild their squad for next season. Juventus also stand to earn 10% of the fee Fiorentina would get if they sell their prized asset. And if the North Londoners manage to bag his signature for the quoted price, it would be daylight robbery.
