Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach Ange Postecoglou, just weeks after winning the Europa League, ending a 17-year trophy drought for the north London club. Whilst he completed his promise of always winning silverware in his second season, he did so whilst finishing in 17th as Spurs recorded their worst Premier League points tally , and Europa League glory was not enough to save him.

Tottenham Hotspur have parted company with Ange Postecoglou despite him ending the club's 17-year trophy drought.

The 59-year-old leaves north London after having won the Europa League last month, beating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao, delivering on his promise to bring silverware in his second season.

It was a first major trophy for the club since 2008, but Spurs ended the season in 17th in the Premier League, recording their worst points tally with 38 - 25 points away from the top five.

Europa League glory was not enough to save the Australian, who paid the price for a dismal league performance.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has emerged has the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou, and it is understood that Spurs have already enquired about his availability.

But Frank will not be the only man Daniel Levy's radar, and TNT Sports looks at the potential contenders to succeed Postecoglou's turbulent reign.

Thomas Frank (Brentford)

The Dane is the leading contender for the role after his tremendous work over six years at Brentford.

Since winning the Championship play-off final in 2021, Frank has managed to establish them as a top club as they have gradually edged towards European contention.

They finished in 10th this season, 18 points above Spurs and 10 points away from a Europa League spot.

Frank has maintained a great track record of developing talent and harnessing them into Premier League quality players, with Ollie Watkins, Byran Mbeumo, and Ivan Toney serving as prime examples.

That facet of his profile could be an excellent fit for a young Spurs side with plenty of upside.

Tactically, he may be the opposite of Postecoglou, and is much more flexible in his strategy and willing to make tweaks to get the best out of his players.

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)

Finishing just above Frank's Brentford in ninth, Andoni Iraola capped an incredible season as Bournemouth reached a record points tally of 56.

He joined the club in the summer of 2023, replacing Gary O'Neil in what was at the time an unpopular decision, but has transformed the team with free-flowing football as they battled for European qualification and reached the FA Cup quarter-final.

The 42-year-old recorded wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle in the most recent campaign.

His high-pressing and energetic style is not too dissimilar to Postecoglou's approach, but retains a flexibility that Postecoglou does not and will not overly force his players to take too many risks.

Marco Silva (Fulham)

Fulham manager Marco Silva is another like Frank and Iraola who has learned and developed the skills to thrive in the Premier League.

He guided his side to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup two years in a row and despite finishing in 11th, they were just two points off Brentford and Bournemouth and were certainly in European contention throughout the season.

However hanging over him is a dismal 18 months in charge of Everton, where he was dismissed from in 2019.

He returned to the Premier League to take over at Craven Cottage and has since rebuilt his reputation.

Whilst managing Spurs would undoubtedly be a step-up in terms of pressure, he does have experience in leading big clubs in their respective leagues, winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting and taking Olympiakos to the Greek League title.

Mauricio Pochettino (United States)

The more unlikely candidate on the list, but Mauricio Pochettino's name will always be associated with Spurs and many supporters would dream of his return.

The United States manager is under pressure as a home World Cup looms in 2026, and he suffered back-to-back defeats in the CONCACAF Nations League earlier this year, losing to Panama in the semi-final before a 2-1 defeat to Canada in the third-place playoff.

The Argentine remains a cult figure in north London, having guided them to impressive second and third finishes in the league and, of course, to a Champions League final in 2019.

He has cemented his desire to one day return to Tottenham, but to lure him away from the US now would require Levy to package a huge financial compensation package for the country's federation.

And whilst there is work to do, Pochettino is committed to leading the States at the World Cup next year.

Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)

After winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City and taking Crystal Palace into Europe, Oliver Glasner's name is deservedly linked to the Spurs post.

His departure is unlikely with Palace chairman Steve Parish making it clear that the Austrian will be at Palace to lead them in the Europa League, but his stock his rising and he may not remain at Sellhurst Park for much longer.

He won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 and his FA Cup triumph has cemented his reputation as a leading manager.
