Liverpool and Newcastle battle for Luis Suarez, Tottenham Hotspur shortlist grows as club hunt Igor Tudor replacement - Paper Round

TNT Sports

Sean Dyche may not be in contention, but there are a handful of potential new managers on Tottenham Hotspur’s shortlist to replace Igor Tudor after he left the north London club. Elsewhere, Newcastle United and Liverpool are both believed to be keen on Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, while Sheffield Wednesday are inching closer to a new owner after they went into administration.

Liverpool and Newcastle hunt Suarez

Sporting CP forward Luis Suarez has been linked with a move to Newcastle United or Liverpool in the summer.

The 28-year-old Colombian forward continues to impress in Portugal, attracting Premier League attention.

The Daily Star states: ”The Reds and Newcastle have intensified their pursuit of Luis Suarez - not that one - according to Portuguese media reports.

”The Sporting forward is experiencing the campaign of his career since his switch from Almeria last summer. The Colombian, 28, has netted 33 goals and provided seven assists in just 42 matches to establish himself as one of Europe's most sought-after forwards.

”Portuguese publication Correio da Manha claims Liverpool and Newcastle are showing 'intense interest' in Suarez, who remains tied to the Lisbon outfit until 2030 and carries a release clause of approximately £70 million.”

Spurs weigh up manager options

The Mirror is one of several papers to report on managerial options for Tottenham Hotspur for the rest of the season, following the departure of Igor Tudor.

Adi Hutter and Roberto De Zerbi are both considered candidates to step in for the struggling Londoners.

The paper writes: ”Tottenham are believed to be looking on the continent with former Brighton and Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi the strong early bookies’ favourite.

”Austrian coach Adi Hutter, who most recently managed Monaco, has also been linked with the job. But former Everton and Burnley boss Sean Dyche is not in the frame, having also publicly ruled himself out of the running to replace Tudor.

”Tudor failed to win any of his Premier League games in charge and his appointment backfired in spectacular fashion.

”They delayed taking any action as the club announced after the Forest game that Tudor’s father had passed away and issued their condolences.”

More names added to the mix at Spurs

The Express newspaper is another source of speculation about the replacement for Tudor at Tottenham.

Ryan Mason, Harry Redknapp, Edin Terzic and Marco Rose are all put forward as other names for the shortlist.

The outlet explains: ”Spurs have seven matches to secure their Premier League survival and numerous individuals have been associated with the managerial role, including potential permanent appointments like Roberto De Zerbi to another temporary one in the form of Adi Hutter, Ryan Mason, Harry Redknapp, Edin Terzic and Marco Rose.

”De Zerbi has had talks with Spurs already and there is encouragement that he would be willing to take the job permanently on the condition that Spurs stave off the threat of relegation.

”Tudor departed without a single Premier League victory to his name and whoever assumes the position will need to elicit a swift reaction from the club's floundering squad in order to reverse their fortunes.”

Hoddle set for managerial return after 20 years?

According to The Mail Online, Spurs are also considering a move for former England boss and TNT Sports pundit Glenn Hoddle.

Hoddle starred for the club during his playing days, but has been out of management since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006.

"Tottenham are searching for their fourth head coach in 295 days after sacking Igor Tudor, with icon Glenn Hoddle among those under consideration for what would be a sensational return," writes the paper.

"Hoddle, 68, has not managed for nearly 20 years, but Spurs have spent a week exploring options since the punishing defeat by Nottingham Forest deepened relegation fears.

"Hoddle has made clear he is willing to help, as have others who managed the club in the past, including Tim Sherwood and Harry Redknapp.

"Others with a Spurs background more recent coaching experience including Chris Hughton and Ryan Mason are out of work and have been linked.

"Spurs are also reluctant to commit to a new boss on a long-term deal because they want to select from an open field in the summer, which would include former favourite Mauricio Pochettino, who is committed to the United States until after the World Cup."

Wednesday talks progress

Arise Capital are reportedly making progress as they look to complete the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday are doomed to League One but it has not stopped consortiums showing interest in the club.

The Mail writes: ”The latest set of talks between Arise Capital Partners and the EFL with regards to their takeover of Sheffield Wednesday on Friday have been described as ‘positive’.

”Inside Sport understands that the competition is satisfied with the business plans, budget and finance involved in the offer from an American consortium made up of investors David Storch, son Michael and Tom Costin. Sadly, former owner Dejphon Chansiri remains influential in the process.

”The Thai businessman is the major creditor and failure to pay him 25p in the pound of the £60m debt owed to him would trigger an automatic 15-point deduction for The Owls next season. Chansiri could write off the debt, allowing the club to start afresh in League One, in what many view as the honourable move, given it was spent as part of his tenure and that he has done enough damage at Hillsborough.

”A precedent has been set at both Derby County, where former owner Mel Morris said goodbye to £100m and Wigan Athletic supremo Au Yeung Wai Kay wrote off £36m. Regardless, Chansiri’s next move remains to be seen. Should he refuse to budge, then the EFL board will make the call but do not expect any leniency, given the impact it would have on other clubs in the competition who have complied with their rules.”

Thomas Frank has outlined how he intends to build on Tottenham's UEFA Europa League success. The Dane has given his first interview since replacing Ange Postecoglou as the club's manager. He says he has been left with some solid foundations courtesy of the Australian, and is now hoping to provide the fans with more "magic moments" as he looks to turn Spurs into "serial winners".

Thomas Frank has vowed to provide Tottenham Hotspur fans with more "magic moments," as he looks to build on their UEFA Europa League success.

The Dane was confirmed as Ange Postecoglou's replacement in north London last week, when he put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

He is charged with improving a team who finished in 17th place in the Premier League last season, their lowest top-flight finish since they were relegated in 1976/77.

Premier League

But he says the club's success against Manchester United, when they ended a trophy drought that stretched back to 2008, shows how big they can be.

"The feeling of being new head coach is extraordinary," he told Tottenham in his first interview since taking the reins. "I'm really looking forward to this massive challenge, together with a lot of good people.

"I've only heard good stuff about all the people here, the training ground, the players, good squad, [it is] exciting.

"[It is a] massive club. I think [there is] massive potential. Just super, super excited."

Frank spent almost seven years in charge at Brentford, during which time he led the club into the Premier League.

Under his guidance, The Bees then consolidated their place in the top flight, with their boss winning plenty of plaudits in the process.

At Tottenham, expectations will be somewhat different.

Instead of looking to simply guide a team into European competitions, Spurs fans will have ambitions of pushing into the top four again, while also seeking further trophy glory.

Frank is only too aware of that but called his predecessor "a legend".

"Huge congratulations to the club, to the team. Huge congratulations to Ange. He will forever be a legend in Tottenham," said Frank.

"I think it's very important to understand that we all stand on the shoulders of others, so I'm going in on the foundations that Ange has built, and his coaching staff.

"I'm very humble about that and I will do my very best to continue the great work he's put in.

"But the feeling and the excitement and the joy and the happiness you could see in the fans' faces and the pictures you saw was... wow.

"Hopefully we can create more of those moments. That would be the ultimate dream, to do that and build on that.

"Nobody can say they're not winners. The team and the players are winners. Now we need to do our best to see if we can become serial winners in the future.

"I think the alignment is key, from top to bottom. It starts from [chair] Daniel [Levy] and [CEO] Vinai [Venkatesham] and [football executive] Johan [Lange] and me.

"The more the four of us can be aligned, just like a unit, an unbreakable unit, the stronger we will be.

"There will be ups and downs. Right now, it's a fairytale. Everyone is happy. The sun is shining, it's fantastic. But we haven't played one game yet.

"Hopefully we win a lot. We will work very hard, every single day, to make sure we create as many magic moments for the fans, put them together, and hopefully at the end of the season it will be a very good season.

"But the alignment in terms of structure, processes, transfers, squad, playing style, coaching, all that, is key."

Frank also believes the club's fans will play a big part in any future success.

Tottenham supporters have been somewhat fragmented in recent years, with some calling for chairman Daniel Levy to step aside.

Frank hopes to unite the fanbase, as he continued: "I think the fans are the most important ones.

"It's the team, staff, me, all of us; how can we make sure we create enough magic moments with the fans, make moments they remember, that they can hopefully get excited about? It's about that.

"And also that we go on a journey together, and on a journey, there will be ups and downs. It's how we get through these ups and downs together.

"But of course the connection from the team to the fans, from me to the fans, is going to be crucial."

Frank also laid down the law to his new players, in terms of what he expects from them.

Risk-taking is something he believes in, as it could potentially lead to a more exciting and profitable brand of football.

And he will also insist on his squad giving 100% every game - or face the consequences.

"I'm a big believer that if you don't take risks, you also take risks," he said.

"A risk is, for example, if we play a man-to-man in some situations. A risk is you need to play forward. If you don't risk the ball, you can't create anything. I'm a big believer of that.

"We need to be brave. The players need to brave when we play, and they need to trust themselves.

"I will do my very best to instil that trust and the players need to be brave.

"For me, if they lose the ball by trying, that's never a problem for me. Of course, I can react, it's natural, but they need to do that.

"But if they don't work hard, I struggle more with that. If they do everything they can and they lose the ball and they try, no problem.

"But it's more if they don't work hard, that's my non-negotiable."

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says sacking Ange Postecoglou 'emotionally difficult' but 'right decision' - 'We want to win'

Published 17/06/2025 at 20:18 GMT+1

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has said he does not regret the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager, but the time was right for change despite their UEFA Europa League triumph. Spurs beat Manchester United in Bilbao to win their first trophy for 17 years. But Levy says the club wants to compete in everything, with the Premier League and UEFA Champions League the primary targets.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said it was difficult "emotionally" to dismiss Ange Postecoglou as the club's head coach, but has no regrets over his appointment two years ago.

Postecoglou departed Spurs earlier this month despite leading the club to a first trophy in 17 years - and first European title since 1984 - with their 1-0 UEFA Europa League final triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao.

The north London side finished 17th in the Premier League - just one place above the relegation zone. Levy said he felt the club "needed a change".

"I am very grateful to Ange. I do not regret appointing Ange," Levy said in a video published on Tottenham's YouTube channel.

"In his first season, we finished fifth. In his second season, we were over the moon to win a trophy. But we need to compete in all competitions, and we felt that we needed a change.

"I have got an excellent relationship with him. I told him you are always going to be a part of our history; he and his family are always welcome back.

"It was a collective decision. It was not my decision, we do everything together.

"Emotionally, it was very difficult, but we believe we have made the right decision for the club."

Levy has replaced Postecoglou with Thomas Frank, who has left Brentford after seven years in charge, a tenure which saw the Danish coach establish his side in the Premier League after leading them to promotion from the Championship.

Levy detailed the qualities he sees in Frank, who will lead Tottenham into the UEFA Champions League next season.

"He's clearly highly intelligent, a great communicator," Levy said. "Super human being, plus all the technical aspects, which are obviously really important."

Spurs' CEO Vinai Venkatesham, who was appointed in April and aided with the recruitment of the new head coach, detailed the process which involved "30 candidates" and said he was particularly drawn by Frank's quality as an "outstanding developer of young players".

Levy also outlined how much that historic night in Bilbao meant to him, as Spurs shook off years of despair to finally win silverware. The 63-year-old, though, said the Europa League title alone is "not enough".

"The pressure and the disappointment of not winning over a number of years, I just wanted it so desperately, not just for me, my family, but all the fans around the world," Levy added.

"We deserve some luck, and that last seven or so minutes was horrific. It felt like hours [until] that final whistle went. That was just an amazing experience, and you saw the outpouring of emotion with the parade.

"You know, it was just incredible. We have won a European trophy, but it is not enough. What we have not done is more important.

"We need to win the league. We want to win the Premier League. We want to win the Champions League. You know, we want to win."

Thomas Frank: Tottenham Hotspur replace Ange Postecoglou with Brentford boss on three-year deal

Updated 12/06/2025 at 20:53 GMT+1

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Thomas Frank will succeed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager ahead of the start of the 2025/2026 Premier League season. Frank has enjoyed several successful seasons with Brentford, helping the west London club establish themselves in the Premier League. Postecoglou was sacked earlier this month despite winning the UEFA Europa League.

Thomas Frank has succeeded Ange Postecoglou as manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham said: "In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game. He has a proven track record in player and squad development, and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead."

Man Utd confirm Cunha signing from Wolves

The news means Frank will leave Brentford after almost seven years in charge. He has signed a contract that runs until 2028.

During that time, he guided The Bees out of the Championship and helped cement their place in the Premier League.

Frank will be joined at Tottenham from Brentford by Justin Cochrane (first team assistant coach), Chris Haslam (head of performance and first team assistant coach) and Joe Newton (first team coach analyst).

Meanwhile, Andreas Georgson (first team assistant coach) has arrived from Manchester United.

Frank's team finished 10th in the English top flight last season, seven places and 18 points ahead of their London rivals.

Indeed, since guiding Brentford to promotion in 2021, Frank has overseen finishes of 13th, 9th, 16th and 10th in four top-flight campaigns.

The 51-year-old has also previously managed Danish club Brondby as well as a number of the Denmark national team's youth sides.

His teams have become known for their exciting style of play and shrewd business in the transfer market.

In recent years, Brentford have bought the likes of Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins and David Raya at low prices before selling them on for significant fees.

Postecoglou's victory in the Europa League final means Spurs have qualified for next season's UEFA Champions League.

However, Frank will have a lot to work on domestically.

Tottenham recorded their lowest-ever Premier League points tally last term, raking together 38 points as they finished one place above the relegation zone.

The Dane is Spurs' fourth permanent manager since June 2021, and their fifth in the six years since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, who left in 2019.

Brentford are yet to announce which manager will succeed Frank ahead of the new season.

USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino uninterested in Tottenham Hotspur return after Ange Postecoglou sacking - 'Not realistic'

Published 08/06/2025 at 11:19 GMT+1

Mauricio Pochettino is one of the most well-regarded Tottenham Hotspur managers of recent years after his impressive spell between 2014 to 2019, which saw him reach the UEFA Champions League final in his last full season with the club. His name has been put forward as a potential replacement for Ange Postecoglou after his recent sacking, but Pochettino has no intention of leaving the USMNT.

United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino said he will not be returning to Tottenham Hotspur to replace Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was sacked on Friday after a dreadful Premier League season, finishing in 17th place.

While the domestic campaign was a disappointment to fans, the 59-year-old Australian did manage to win the club’s first silverware in 17 years when Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final, ensuring they would play UEFA Champions League football next season.

Despite that, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy moved to sack Postecoglou, meaning the north London side are now on the lookout for a new manager.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is reportedly the frontrunner to take over, but another name in the frame is former Tottenham head coach Pochettino.

He managed the club between 2014 and 2019, taking them to a Champions League final in his last full season with Spurs.

Pochettino then moved on to spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, before taking charge of the USMNT in Ocotober 2024.

The 53-year-old Argentinian is set to oversee the USA’s 2026 World Cup campaign, taking place in North America next summer.

Speaking to the press, Pochettino ruled out an immediate return.

"Today it's not realistic," he said. "Look where I am. Look where we (his backroom staff) are. The answer is so clear.

"I think, since I left in 2019, my name has always been on the list [of rumours]. I've seen the rumours, there are 100 coaches on the list. Don't be worried about that."

However, he did hint that he would consider a comeback at some point down the line, adding: "If something happens [in the future], you for sure will see.

"But I am so happy in this moment, and we cannot talk about this type of thing."

Club captain Son Heung-min called departing head coach Ange Postecoglou a "Tottenham Hotspur legend forever."

Spurs announced Postecoglou's dismissal on Friday despite winning the Europa League final only two weeks earlier, ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy.

European glory came alongside a dismal domestic campaign however, as they recorded their worst points tally in the Premier League and lost 22 matches en route to finishing 17th.

Which manager could replace Postecoglou at Spurs? Five potential candidates assessed

One of Postecoglou's first moves after being appointed to Spurs in summer 2023 was to make Son captain, replacing Hugo Lloris.

Postecoglou persisted with Son despite the striker's poor form and clear fatigue throughout a struggling season for Spurs, and the 32-year-old made his gratitude towards the Australian clear on Instagram.

"You’ve changed the trajectory of this club, he wrote. "You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did."

He continued: "You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.

"You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you.

"Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate."

Several other Spurs players took to social media to pay homage to their outgoing manager.

Both Pedro Porro and Guglielmo Vicario, who joined the club in the summer of 2023, echoed Son's emotional sentiments on the coach who guided them to a European title.

"Thank you for everything, boss," Porro wrote. For mentoring me early on, helping me settle into the club, and trusting me out on the pitch. I’ll always be grateful for the way you led us, defended us, and kept us going through all the highs and lows.

"Above everything, you gave us one of the greatest moments in the club’s history and for that, you’ll always be celebrated. Wishing you all the very best, boss."

Vicario said: Boss, I just want to say a massive thank you for everything you have done for me and for all of us.

"From that very first call, right from the beginning, you always showed so much belief in me.

"You are not only a top manager, you are an incredible person to work for, a real leader, a mentor, and someone I’ll always look up to."

Postecoglou delivered a statement published by his representatives in the wake of his departure, and the 59-year-old said: "When I reflect on my time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride.

"The opportunity to lead one of England’s historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget."

Defender Micky van de Ven added: "Gaffer, thank you for everything! Believed in me from the first day I arrived at the club. Many ups and downs in the last two years but you kept believing in us and kept pushing us. Big part of the success from the club this year, and forever grateful that you made me part of it. All the best."

Dominic Solanke, who signed for Spurs last summer said: "Thank you for bringing me to this wonderful club, thank you for bringing us a wonderful trophy. [I] won’t ever forget the convo we had before I signed and we achieved a dream! All the best in your next adventure."

Brentford's Thomas Frank has emerged as the leading contender to replace Postecoglou and lead Spurs in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach Ange Postecoglou, just weeks after winning the Europa League, ending a 17-year trophy drought for the north London club. Whilst he completed his promise of always winning silverware in his second season, he did so whilst finishing in 17th as Spurs recorded their worst Premier League points tally , and Europa League glory was not enough to save him.

Tottenham Hotspur have parted company with Ange Postecoglou despite him ending the club's 17-year trophy drought.

The 59-year-old leaves north London after having won the Europa League last month, beating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao, delivering on his promise to bring silverware in his second season.

It was a first major trophy for the club since 2008, but Spurs ended the season in 17th in the Premier League, recording their worst points tally with 38 - 25 points away from the top five.

Premier League

'Spurs legend forever' - Son pays homage to departing Postecoglou

Europa League glory was not enough to save the Australian, who paid the price for a dismal league performance.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has emerged has the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou, and it is understood that Spurs have already enquired about his availability.

But Frank will not be the only man Daniel Levy's radar, and TNT Sports looks at the potential contenders to succeed Postecoglou's turbulent reign.

Thomas Frank (Brentford)

The Dane is the leading contender for the role after his tremendous work over six years at Brentford.

Since winning the Championship play-off final in 2021, Frank has managed to establish them as a top club as they have gradually edged towards European contention.

They finished in 10th this season, 18 points above Spurs and 10 points away from a Europa League spot.

Frank has maintained a great track record of developing talent and harnessing them into Premier League quality players, with Ollie Watkins, Byran Mbeumo, and Ivan Toney serving as prime examples.

That facet of his profile could be an excellent fit for a young Spurs side with plenty of upside.

Tactically, he may be the opposite of Postecoglou, and is much more flexible in his strategy and willing to make tweaks to get the best out of his players.

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)

Finishing just above Frank's Brentford in ninth, Andoni Iraola capped an incredible season as Bournemouth reached a record points tally of 56.

He joined the club in the summer of 2023, replacing Gary O'Neil in what was at the time an unpopular decision, but has transformed the team with free-flowing football as they battled for European qualification and reached the FA Cup quarter-final.

The 42-year-old recorded wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle in the most recent campaign.

His high-pressing and energetic style is not too dissimilar to Postecoglou's approach, but retains a flexibility that Postecoglou does not and will not overly force his players to take too many risks.

Marco Silva (Fulham)

Fulham manager Marco Silva is another like Frank and Iraola who has learned and developed the skills to thrive in the Premier League.

He guided his side to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup two years in a row and despite finishing in 11th, they were just two points off Brentford and Bournemouth and were certainly in European contention throughout the season.

However hanging over him is a dismal 18 months in charge of Everton, where he was dismissed from in 2019.

He returned to the Premier League to take over at Craven Cottage and has since rebuilt his reputation.

Whilst managing Spurs would undoubtedly be a step-up in terms of pressure, he does have experience in leading big clubs in their respective leagues, winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting and taking Olympiakos to the Greek League title.

Marco Silva

Mauricio Pochettino (United States)

The more unlikely candidate on the list, but Mauricio Pochettino's name will always be associated with Spurs and many supporters would dream of his return.

The United States manager is under pressure as a home World Cup looms in 2026, and he suffered back-to-back defeats in the CONCACAF Nations League earlier this year, losing to Panama in the semi-final before a 2-1 defeat to Canada in the third-place playoff.

The Argentine remains a cult figure in north London, having guided them to impressive second and third finishes in the league and, of course, to a Champions League final in 2019.

He has cemented his desire to one day return to Tottenham, but to lure him away from the US now would require Levy to package a huge financial compensation package for the country's federation.

And whilst there is work to do, Pochettino is committed to leading the States at the World Cup next year.

Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)

After winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City and taking Crystal Palace into Europe, Oliver Glasner's name is deservedly linked to the Spurs post.

His departure is unlikely with Palace chairman Steve Parish making it clear that the Austrian will be at Palace to lead them in the Europa League, but his stock his rising and he may not remain at Sellhurst Park for much longer.

He won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 and his FA Cup triumph has cemented his reputation as a leading manager.

Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur head coach after finishing 17th in the Premier League, despite ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy. The Australian guided Spurs to UEFA Europa League glory to earn Champions League football next season, but it was not enough to secure his future for a third campaign in north London after a record-low points finish domestically.

Ange Postecoglou has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur head coach, the Premier League club has announced.

The move comes less than a month after the Australian manager guided Spurs to their first major trophy since 2008.

Postecoglou's side defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the UEFA Europa League final in May to win their first piece of significant silverware since they beat Chelsea to claim the 2008 League Cup under Juande Ramos.

The victory over The Red Devils also meant Postecoglou delivered on his claim that he always wins silverware in his second season with a club.

However, it was not enough for the 59-year-old to keep his job for a third season after Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League, just one place above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou said that his time at Spurs filled him with pride in a statement following his departure.

"When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride," read the statement.

"The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.

"Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget.

"That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream.

"There were many challenges to overcome and plenty of noise that comes with trying to accomplish what many said was not possible.

"We have also laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait 17 more years for their next success.

"I have enormous faith in this group of players and know there is much more potential and growth in them."

Tottenham's points total of 38 was their lowest in Premier League history, eclipsing their previous record low of 44 in the 1997/98 campaign.

The north London side's hopes of a domestic trophy this season were ended in the space of four days in February, with a 4-0 defeat in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool being followed by a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

There were several low points during the league campaign, including Leicester City's 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which ended a seven-match losing streak in the league for the visitors.

"I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club, the supporters," Postecoglou added.

"I know there were some difficult times but I always felt that they wanted me to succeed and that gave me all the motivation I needed to push on.

"It's important to acknowledge the hard working people at Spurs who gave me encouragement on a daily basis.

"And finally, I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years.

"A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club and the brilliant coaches who never once doubted we could do something special.

"We are forever connected. Audere est Facere"

Spurs faced a number of injury issues this season, with Guglielmo Vicario, Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie among those who spent extended periods on the treatment table.

Tensions between Postecoglou and the Spurs fans appeared particularly high during the defeat away to rivals Chelsea in March.

However, the Europa League triumph seemed to get large parts of the fanbase back on side.

He joined his players for an open-top bus parade through north London as part of the celebrations in the days following the final.

But European glory was not enough for the owners to stick with him for a third campaign, as attention now turns to his replacement.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has been linked with the role in recent weeks.

Frank guided The Bees from the Championship to the Premier League after becoming manager in 2018 and has since cemented their place in the top tier of English football.

Their attacking style was exciting to watch during the 2024/25 campaign, filled with high-scoring matches and dramatic comebacks to ultimately finish 10th in the Premier League.

Despite leading Brentford to a more successful domestic campaign than Spurs, the prospect of Champions League football next season could be enough to lure Frank away from west London.

Tottenham are also said to have shown interest in Marco Silva, who managed Fulham to 11th in the Premier League and an FA Cup quarter-final during 2024/25.

They may face tough competition in trying to secure the Portuguese, with Juventus reportedly identifying him as a target, too.

However, Silva recently stated he would be staying at Craven Cottage next season, after reportedly turning down an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Desire Doue labelled as 'Neymar reincarnated' by Tottenham Hotspur player before incredible rise at Paris Saint-Germain

Published 31/05/2025 at 12:48 GMT+1

Paris Saint-Germain's Desire Doue was described as "Neymar reincarnated" by Djed Spence, according to Rio Ferdinand, who was discussing the forward ahead of the UEFA Champions League final. The 19-year-old has lit up Europe this season, contributing decisive moments in his side's run to Munich, and former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes the youngster has got "huge potential".

Paris Saint-Germain winger Desire Doue was labelled "Neymar reincarnated" by Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence, according to Rio Ferdinand.

The 19-year-old has impressed since arriving at the French champions in the summer, scoring 13 goals in all competitions this season.

The forward has been influential in his side’s run to the UEFA Champions League final, converting the decisive penalty against Liverpool in the last 16 before scoring the equaliser in the quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa.

Where does PSG's stunning win rank in the pantheon of great performances in European Cup finals?

Former Manchester United defender and TNT Sports pundit Ferdinand believes Doue has huge potential, but was first made aware of the prodigious talent by Spence, who gave high praise to the teenager.

Speaking on TNT Sports’ Champions League Final Preview Show, Ferdinand said: "I sat with Djed Spence, and I said: ‘Give me a young player’s name, up and coming, we might not have spoken about.’ This was a few months ago.

"I didn’t realise he [Spence] went on loan to Rennes a couple of years ago, and he said: ‘I was with Doue there…Rio, this is like Neymar reincarnated.’"

Ferdinand added: "At the time, he wasn’t [in the] knockout stages yet, I was like: ‘Alright, steady a little bit.’ But then I started seeing him and watching him a little bit, I was like: ‘He ain’t too far off.’

"He’s got huge potential, and I don’t know where his ceiling is."

It comes after Doue revealed that Neymar was one of his main footballing inspirations, often modelling his game on the Brazilian as a youngster.

Ahead of the final with Internazionale, the winger told TNT Sports: "I’ve always been inspired by Neymar, [Lionel] Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, different types of players and different personalities.

"As a kid, Neymar was always my favourite, and I would always try to recreate his moves. I just try to play my football and be myself on the pitch, doing what comes to mind at each moment and in each phase of play."

'He's always had Ballon d'Or talent'

Doue is one of a number of forwards to thrive under Luis Enrique this season, with Ousmane Dembele enjoying arguably the best season of his career.

The Frenchman has scored 33 goals this campaign, with eight of those coming in the Champions League, and has netted 25 times this calendar year alone.

The 28-year-old was dropped for PSG’s visit to Arsenal in October after his manager was dissatisfied with his work-rate in a Ligue 1 game, but bounced back from the setback to become an integral figure in his side’s treble-chasing season.

'Mbappe was clearly in his way' - Dembele position switch 'a moment of genius'

The Preview Show panel have been impressed by Enrique’s lack of preferential treatment for the bigger names, and how he has got the most out of the likes of Dembele this season.

Ferdinand said: "Luis Enrique, I saw a clip of him talking to Kylian Mbappe one time and saying about influencing your team-mates and working hard.

"He didn't get the response he wanted… see you later. And look at the transformation in the team now."

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves added: "And look at what he’s turned Dembele into now. As a false nine, we always criticised his finishing. Mbappe’s goals have gone, but Dembele’s scoring them, and he couldn’t really score before.

"He’s always had Ballon d’Or talent, at Dortmund coming through and then going to Barca [Barcelona]. You need to be in the right place, I think, with the right manager, surrounded by the right people."
