Tottenham have the chance to get some revenge and hijack Crystal Palace's move to sign Leicester star Bilal El Khannouss this week, after he was left out of their squad to play Charlton on Saturday.
Thomas Frank's side put the disappointment of missing out on Eberechi Eze this week behind them as they claimed a sensational 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha.
But while their performance was top-class and they look like a formidable unit in their three games under the new boss, it's clear that he wants more additions in attack and they now have the perfect opportunity to get one back on their south London rivals.
Tottenham Can Hijack El Khannouss Deal
Spurs had reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign Eze in a deal worth in excess of £60m including add-ons, only for local rivals Arsenal to swoop in at the last minute and take the player to the Emirates instead.
It's the second time the Lilywhites have felt that they had a deal wrapped up for a number ten this summer, only for the rug to be pulled from under them at the final hurdly, following the Morgan Gibbs-White saga earlier in the window.
But now they have a chance to get a top talent in El Khannouss for half the price, and get their own back on Palace in the process too.
The Morocco international is expected to leave the Foxes this summer after their relegation to the Championship, and it seems as though he took a step closer to the exit door this weekend after Marti Cifuentes left him out of the squad for their win over Charlton.
It was reported earlier this week that Palace had agreed a deal with the player and club over a move to take him to Selhurst Park, but they were assessing all of their options before formally pulling the trigger.
But Spurs have held a long-term interest in the forward, dubbed a 'magician' by Jacek Kulig and 'phenomenal' by Breaking the Lines, and could now swoop to bring him in, with the terms of a deal already on the table.
The player would surely prefer to play Champions League football and play alongside the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, that play in the Europa Conference League in a side who look set to lose their best players before the deadline passes.
With a deal reportedly set to cost around £32m, Spurs could splash the cash to bring in the talented playmaker to bolster their number ten position and spend the extra money saved on topping up their move for Savinho, who Frank also loves.
