Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a late-window move to sign Marseille attacker Amine Gouiri, as Roberto De Zerbi looks to add another forward to his squad.
Tottenham have six days left to add more new faces to their squad, with Manchester City's Omar Marmoush on the verge of becoming the eighth addition of the summer transfer window, with the Egypt international undergoing a medical on Wednesday.
Spurs manager De Zerbi wants another new player for his frontline after the deal for Marmoush is officially confirmed, with Liverpool's Cody Gakpo his number one target.
There have been conflicting reports on the future of the Dutchman, with talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook claiming that the north London outfit are still pushing to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the September 1 deadline.
However, it has also been claimed that the Reds have no intention of selling the 27-year-old, who Andoni Iraola says has been one of the club's 'best players' during pre-season and against Newcastle United on the opening day of the new Premier League season.
Should a move for Gakpo be a no-go, Spurs could look for an alternative option and, according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, Marseille forward Gouiri is on their shortlist.
The Algeria international is also a target for Serie A giants Napoli, with a move away from the Ligue 1 club possible before Tuesday.
Gouiri Very Similar to Marmoush
While Gakpo primarily plays out wide, Gouiri has largely played as a centre-forward for Marseille since joining them in 2025.
That would make him more of a similar profile to Marmoush than other new boy Savinho, but it's hard to argue against his goal record for OM.
Many of those 23 goals came during De Zerbi's tenure at the Stade Velodrome, and the Italian made it clear during his time in charge that he saw the 26-year-old as a number nine, rather than being best used in a different position in the forward line.
De Zerbi even compared him to a top striker from the 21st century in his praise, believing that he has the potential to become one of the best in Europe.
"He is not entirely aware of his strengths, the qualities he has. I try to give him this self-belief.
He reminds me of the great No. 9s, like Gonzalo Higuain, in terms of his movement, of making the team play. Amine has everything to be one of the best European centre-forwards, he just has to believe in it.
De Zerbi also labelled the Algerian as 'unique' and says he couldn't be replaced in the starting XI, which shows how much he appreciated the player during his spell in France.
Given Spurs already have Dominic Solanke and Richarlison in their squad, as well as the incoming Marmoush, it's hard to see how there is also space for Gouiri, unless Tottenham are ready to ditch both Solanke and Richarlison in the final days of the window.
That cannot be completely ruled out, with Richarlison in particular being linked with a move away this summer, and beling called out by his manager for a bad performance against Brentford on Saturday.
What is clear is that this Spurs side needs more firepower after the dismal defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium, where they lacked anything in the final third.
If Tottenham have any ambitions of finishing in the European places again this season, then they likely need a big freshen up of their frontline in the next days.
