Tottenham should steer clear of signing Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and target Southampton's 19-year-old talent Tyler Dibling as their new winger instead this summer.
The Lilywhites are in need of new signings if they are to avoid a repeat of the dismal 2024/25 Premier League campaign that saw them finish in 17th. If not for the three relegated teams failing to put up a fight in the final weeks of the term, Spurs may well have found themselves in a relegation battle.
But with Thomas Frank appointed in place of Ange Postecoglou and Champions League football confirmed for next season thanks to their Europa League triumph, the future certainly looks brighter than initially expected. Nonetheless, Tottenham risk leaving themselves short in other areas if they blow too much of the budget on Mbeumo.
Tottenham Must Prioritise Dibling over Mbeumo
Brentford are likely to drive up the transfer price amid competition
Manchester United were the club intiially most advanced in the race to sign Mbeumo, who had already given his green light on a switch to Old Trafford, but Spurs offered £70 million to hijack the move and complete a sensational raid of Brentford for the Cameroonian international and manager Frank.
It remains unclear whether the Bees are prepared to accept such an offer, and they may well be anticipating an approach from United as they look to maximise the transfer fee they can rake in amid competition.
Tottenham would be wise to avoid any such bidding war and instead target Southampton's Dibling instead, who could be acquired at a much more affordable fee.
The Saints previously set steep asking prices in the region of £100 million earlier last season for the "world-class talent", but it is now believed that a fee closer to £50 million would be enough for the Championship winger.
Moreover, GIVEMESPORT sources understand that Dibling is 'sold' on a move to Tottenham, whereas Mbeumo is known to prefer a switch to Old Trafford over North London.
Signing Mbeumo could offer Tottenham a useful boost, but such a high fee risks forcing them to scale back plans for strengthening other key areas in the squad. Ultimately, last season’s struggles were down to multiple deficiencies across the squad, and moving for Dibling instead would free up funds to address those weaknesses properly.
