Former Rangers loanee Mikey Moore looks set to once again be farmed out by Tottenham Hotspur for the upcoming season having reportedly agreed personal terms with Bundesliga side FC Koln.
After a successful loan spell at Ibrox last season, the 18-year old winger returned to his parent club in June. Rangers had maintained an interest in Moore, however a transfer pursuit for a permanent deal was always going to be ambitious given his value to the Premier League club.
Having now agreed personal terms with Koln, the ball is now in Spurs’ court to give the loan move the go-ahead. The Englishman has been a regular feature for new boss Roberto De Zerbi in pre-season and travelled with the squad to New Zealand for their summer tour.
Moore set for next chapter in Bundesliga
According to the Press Association, Moore himself has ‘chosen’ Koln as his next destination amid strong loan interest from the German outfit. Spurs are yet to give the move the green light, but are expected to do so in the near future. Once given the all-clear, Moore will travel to Germany to complete the move.
Fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund as well as EFL Championship outfit Middlesbrough had also expressed in Moore. Former Rangers boss Danny Rohl was a huge admirer of his last season and said he’d do ‘everything’ in his power to sign him, however he left for RB Salzburg in June. New Light Blues boss Derek McInnes is looking elsewhere for wingers, having signed Japanese wide man Daisuke Yokota earlier this week.
Moore won the SPFL Premiership’s Young Player of the Year award last season after scoring six goals and two assists. While his attacking numbers were fairly modest, his direct dribbling ability and tricky wing play earned him fan favourite status among the Ibrox faithful. He also notable was on target in both away fixtures to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Moore on Premier League ambition
The winger has made no secret that his ultimate ambition is to play regular football in the Premier League. While the Koln move won’t immediately fulfil this, a chance to gain experience in one of Europe’s top five league can only be a step in the right direction.
After a friendly last month against Millwall, he said: “To compete in the Premier League - where I want to play football, you need to be physically right. You need to be as good as all the other boys in the league because it's such a physically demanding league. It's something I've had to work hard on over the summer but I'm feeling good in myself and need to show technically as well that I'm at a good level.”
He also reflected on his time at Ibrox. He added: “I absolutely loved every second of my time there. I think I've come back a better player and a better person with the experiences I had. Now I need to try and bring that here because it's another massive club. Throughout the pre-season, whatever chance I get, I just want to show that I've come back a better player and physically a better person.”
