Tottenham are closing in on signing Napoli attacking midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer rebuild is accelerating at a remarkable pace, with TEAMtalk reporting that Napoli’s Antonio Vergara has emerged as a potential fifth signing while terms have already been agreed with two other players as Roberto De Zerbi’s new-look squad takes shape.
The confirmed business so far is already impressive. Andy Robertson has been formally announced as a Tottenham player following his free transfer from Liverpool, while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Marcos Senesi’s deal from Bournemouth is also fully finalised. Two quality additions, both on free transfers, represent exactly the kind of financially intelligent recruitment De Zerbi outlined as essential when he demanded the club build a new team from the moment survival was secured.
The pipeline beyond those two confirmed deals is where the real excitement lies. Brighton centre back Jan Paul van Hecke has agreed personal terms with Tottenham, with a third bid set to be lodged imminently after a second offer was rejected over the weekend. Manchester City winger Savinho is reportedly getting closer after reaching an agreement on a five-year contract, with various reports suggesting his arrival is imminent.
Vergara is available for £26 million
Vergara represents a different profile entirely. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder impressed during a loan spell at Serie B side Reggiana in 2024-25 before making 12 Serie A appearances for Napoli this season. Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 reports that Tottenham and Como are among five clubs targeting him, while Il Mattino claims Napoli are ready to sell for around £26 million, having decided he is not untouchable this summer. At that price, a creative attacking midfielder with room to develop further represents a potentially shrewd piece of business.
De Zerbi’s vision for the rebuild has been stated clearly and repeatedly. Ten to twelve players good enough to stay, supplemented by first-level additions that ensure Tottenham never again suffer the way they did throughout the 2025-26 campaign.
The summer is still young, and the business is already flowing. The new Tottenham is being built with purpose, clarity and genuine ambition.
