Fantasy Football Scout take a look at the numbers behind a Gameweek 8 performance that saw nine of our starting XI register more than just the standard two appearance points.

We have teamed up with Scout to help bring you hints, tips and advice during the

FPL season.

They will be using their expertise to provide advice and gameweek tips which should prove useful in ensuring you win your mini-leagues.

Best of Spurs

Mathys Tel (£5.6m) led the way as our top FPL points scorer in Gameweek 8. Mathys returned 11 points thanks to his goal, a clean sheet point and the maximum three bonus points. Our Frenchman had two attempts on goal against Chelsea and created a further two chances for his teammates. Both were tied team-leading metrics in Gameweek 8.

Antonin Kinsky (£4.4m) was the second highest scoring goalkeeper of the weekend in FPL, picking up nine points for his FPL owners. Toni collected six points courtesy of the clean sheet and his appearance points. He also made four saves, which earned him a save point, and his outstanding performance also saw him credited with two bonus points.

Jan Paul van Hecke (£4.9m) and Mateus Fernandes (£5.6m) both returned seven points for their FPL managers. JP collected two appearance points, four clean sheet points and a bonus point, whilst Mateus returned two appearance points, three points for his assist, a clean sheet point and two defensive contribution points.

Defensive contribution points are awarded to outfield players for defensive actions made in a game. If a defender registers 10 or more defensive actions (clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles won) in a single match, they register the two additional points.

Midfielders and forwards need 12 or more defensive actions (clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles won and ball recoveries) to collect the points, with both Mateus and Sandro Tonali (£5.3m) reaching the threshold in Gameweek 8.

Mo Kudus (£6.5m) missed out by just one action, registering 11, with JP missing out by two, having completed eight defensive actions in the match.

Spotlight: Antonin Kinsky (£4.4m)

Toni was heavily sold by FPL managers heading into Gameweek 8, with many managers seeing that Chelsea were third in the league for goals scored heading into our match. However, many of those managers are now reversing the decision to sell Toni after he collected his third clean sheet of the season, keeping out the Blues’ attack.

This season only three goalkeepers in the league have kept more clean sheets than Toni, and our defence sits fifth best in the league for expected goals conceded (xGC) across the opening eight matches of the season. We have also conceded just 13 big chances this season, with only two teams in the league having conceded fewer.

Toni has made 19 saves in the league, collecting five additional save points as well as the two bonus points that he returned against Chelsea. Toni is the seventh-highest FPL points-scoring goalkeeper in the game across the opening eight weeks of the season.

All the goalkeepers who have registered more points than Toni so far are more expensive to buy, making our shot-stopper excellent value for money.

Spurs’ most popular FPL asset

After an outstanding performance against Chelsea, JP is once again our most transferred in player. Across the last six gameweeks, he has registered three clean sheets, a goal, six defensive contribution points and three bonus points, totalling a team-leading 38 points.

Our centre-back has also been unfortunate not to have registered the additional defensive contribution points more often. JP has returned the points against Everton, Manchester United and Coventry, and missed out by just one defensive action against both Brentford and Villa, and two actions against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Mo is also proving popular with FPL managers this week. In his seven appearances since returning from injury, he has had nine shots on goal, created six chances, two of which have been defined as big chances, supplied 25 crosses and taken five corners. Our winger has been responsible for 40 per cent of our big chances created when he has been on the pitch in the league this season.

Hidden Gem

Aston Villa’s Nicolas Jackson (£6.7m) looks a good buy for FPL managers for the coming weeks. The forward scored twice against Man City in Gameweek 8 and has now returned in three of the last four gameweeks.
