Thomas Frank looks set for an interesting first encounter with Cristian Romero at Tottenham.
Tottenham supporters have expressed their frustration as the Lilywhites continue to drag their heels in the summer transfer market.
There has been a lack of activity in North London, although fans will hope that stays the case when it comes to star centre-back Romero.
The Argentine has been widely linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. However, Frank will be keen to have his say on the matter after recent transfer developments.
Tottenham want at least £60million for Romero
As reported by the Telegraph (26 June), Daniel Levy will set a £60million asking price for Romero, with the 63-year-old unwilling to compromise on the defender’s valuation.
MORE SPURS STORIES
This development could trouble Atletico, as AS wrote on Friday (27 June) that the Spanish side are only willing to spend £51.2million on his transfer, an amount which they already believe is excessive.
As such, this could see Romero take matters into his own hands and put in a transfer request.
It remains to be seen whether Frank can convince the 27-year-old to stay, but Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes there will be an answer soon.
“I know it’s been suggested it might be difficult to keep Romero,” Wenham said.
“People have pointed toward his close relationship with Ange Postecoglou and suggested he might not get on with the new manager.
“However, I understand players such as Romero are due back in training the week after next, and I imagine that will be one of the first things which is sorted out. I’d expected Frank to hold talks with Romero over his future at Tottenham and where he sees that going.”
Tottenham will miss Romero if he leaves
Romero is more than a formidable force at the back; he is a leader for each player on the pitch.
Furthermore, it has even been suggested that he could take over as captain if Son Heung-min leaves North London.
This kind of leadership is difficult to come by in football, and it would be hard to replace Romero if he does leave Tottenham this summer.
