Tottenham are aiming to make more signings this summer, but are targeting a surprise position.

Ange Postecoglou struggled as his side faced an injury crisis last season, and the quality of depth within the squad is now being addressed.

Tottenham have already added to their defence, with Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic joining the squad, while Kevin Danso has made his loan move permanent.

However, it now appears that Thomas Frank is still keen to add to his options at centre-backs, in a move which could suggest a big tactical change is in the works.

Tottenham fans convinced of a formation change

Spurs typically played in a back four under Postecoglou, but the injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven last season meant that they were often vulnerable defensively.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Despite now having increased numbers at centre-back, Football London (5 August) has reported that Tottenham want to add another senior centre-back to the squad.

Tottenham fans are surprised at this development, with other areas arguably more in need of strengthening, but they are now convinced that the interest in a centre-back will mean that they switch formation to three at the back.

Tottenham have bigger priorities than a centre-back

Tottenham fans are clearly surprised at the news, given that a left-winger will be necessary following the departure of Son Heung-Min.

An injury to James Maddison also means that a midfielder may be a necessity, but if more money is to be spent on another defender, this may not be possible.

A switch to a back three in itself may not be the worst idea, given the depth at centre-back now, and the need to tighten up what was a leaky defence.

This would resemble a big change from Postecoglou’s style, and this may mean Spurs need more time to adjust ahead of the upcoming season.
