Tottenham Hotspur have just learned that they would have to break the bank to land Antonee Robinson, with Fulham having no intention of letting the left-back leave on the cheap.
Destiny Udogie is now the only recognised left-back in Tottenham’s squad after Sergio Reguilon was released by the club.
While Spurs have taken the option to extend Ben Davies’ contract by one year, the Welshman has featured primarily as a centre-back for club and country over the last few years.
That perhaps explains why it emerged earlier this week that Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Antonee Robinson.
Fulham name asking price for Tottenham target Antonee Robinson
The reveal about Tottenham’s interest in Antonee Robinson came from Paul O’Keefe, who said that the Cottagers are aware of Spurs’ admiration for the 27-year-old.
A new report from GiveMeSport has now claimed that Robinson has attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe.
It is asserted that Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to explore a move for the USA international, but Fulham are desperate to keep him at the club.
MORE SPURS STORIES
As a result, the West London side have slapped a £45m price tag on the defender, which they hope will fend off Spurs and other interested clubs.
Marco Silva’s men believe that the price is a fair one considering the fee that the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Milos Kerkez have gone for this summer.
Why Tottenham would not want to spend £45m on Robinson
The Fulham man has undoubtedly emerged as one of the most consistent left-backs across the Premier League over recent years.
That is why some Spurs fans are keen to see Tottenham secure a deal for Robinson, believing he would provide strong competition to Udogie.
However, realistically, the 27-year-old is not going to start over the Italian and it may not be prudent for the Lilywhites to spend £45m on back up.
