It has been suggested that Spurs are paying Conor Gallagher ÂŁ200k-per-week as they finally look to end their wage structure.
Thereâs an argument that in itself is maddening, but Bale thinks Spurs wonât progress until they compete with other big clubsâ wage offers.
âI would say money. Maybe they donât pay as much as United. If you look at the wage bill, itâs lower, and I think thereâs a reason for that,â Bale said on the Stick to Football podcast.

âYou can attract good players, but I always say now: buying a ÂŁ50 million player isnât what it used to be. You have to be spending ÂŁ80 million, ÂŁ90 million, or ÂŁ100 million now just to get a good player. So maybe itâs just the money and the wages; youâre not attracting that bigger player who can do a job here and now.
âAlso, they always seem to buy young, hoping theyâre going to grow into something bigger. That has worked in the past. For example, with me and a few other players, but theyâre an established club now.
âThey have the stadium, they have the training ground, and they have the fan base. They need to be buying bigger players and maybe paying a bit more.â
Talk of wages and transfers is now irrelevant until the summer as Spurs are fighting for their Premier League status.
