Girona are looking to sign Bryan Gil from Tottenham Hotspur, but the La Liga club do not want to pay a transfer fee to the North London club.

The 24-year-old impressed on loan for the Spanish side last term, but his season was cut short by an injury.

Girona chose against activating their €15m (£12.5m) option to buy Gil, which has now expired, and according to reports, Tottenham are now working hard to find Gil a new club before the September 1 deadline.

It has been reported that Tottenham want under £10m to sell Gil this summer.

Fabio Paratici’s attempts to sell Gil to Bolgona have failed over the last few days, and it has now emerged that Girona are now eyeing a late deal for Gil.

Girona are hoping to sign Bryan Gil on a free transfer from Tottenham

This report comes from journalist Nil Sola, who has revealed that the La Liga outfit have ‘reactivated’ their pursuit of the Tottenham Hotspur man.

He claims that, having recently signed Alex Moreno on a free transfer after Aston Villa terminated his contract, Girona want to do the same with Gil.

They are hoping that Tottenham agree to release the Spain international, who has just a year left in his contract, so that they can secure him without a transfer fee.

Sola claims that Gil is extremely keen on returning to Estadi Montilivi, but he does not say if Spurs are seriously considering terminating his deal.

Tottenham do have history with this, after they terminated Tanguy Ndombele’s contract early in order to get the Frenchman off the books.

Why Tottenham have struggled to find a buyer for Gil

The Spurs winger has done well in all of his loan spells, and he was in the Spain squad even last season, which is why the lack of interest in his services is puzzling.

Sport Witness, while relaying the report from Sola, say that the reason Tottenham have not been able to find a buyer for the winger is due to his ligament tear, which has sidelined him from the start of March.

The outlet says that the injury has made it a ‘difficult task’ for the Lilywhites to offload him before September 1, even at a reduced asking price.
