Paul O’Keefe understands that Guglielmo Vicario’s situation at Spurs is being reviewed. There is growing concern over his recent performances, and the club is actively exploring potential long-term replacements, likely targeting the summer of 2026.

Vicario’s form has come under heavy scrutiny due to high-profile errors contributing to goals conceded (e.g., in matches against Fulham and Nottingham Forest). Fans have booed him, and some media/pundits have called for an upgrade.

One name in the mix is Manchester City’s young talent, James Trafford, according to The Boy Hotspur’s Substack. who is preparing to seek an exit after failing to secure the regular playing time he desires, but he’s no secret and is being monitored by everyone.

Manager Thomas Frank continues to support Vicario publicly and sees him as the No. 1 for now.

Reliable sources indicate the club shifted from not considering a change to actively looking, but the January market is seen as too difficult/expensive for a new No. 1.

It is reported that Tottenham has initiated preliminary talks with the player, believing the project they offer aligns perfectly with Trafford’s career goals.

Vicario remains Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper through the rest of the 2025/26 season, barring a dramatic change. A replacement is increasingly likely in the summer if his form doesn’t improve or if a suitable deal arises (potentially accelerated by interest from Italy).

For now, backups like Antonín Kinsky or others are not viewed as ready to displace him permanently. Which is an issue in itself. The biggest obstacle to the transfer’s realisation is Manchester City’s rigid stance.

The club management is currently deeming Trafford’s departure unlikely, as they are unwilling to weaken their squad mid-season and risk being left without adequate cover in the goalkeeping department.

City would likely only change this position if a very high cash offer is submitted or if they manage to secure a suitable alternative themselves. Therefore, even if the goalkeeper pushes for a move in January and the pressure from suitors increases, Manchester City is expected to make the transaction difficult.
