Tottenham Hotspur are one of the most historic British clubs, and plenty of legendary figures have graced the turf in North London over the years.
Ange Postecoglou wrote his name in Spurs history books by winning the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham, ending a 17-year trophy drought in North London.
His replacement, Thomas Frank, will be looking to build his own legacy in N17 and turn some of the players in his squad into Tottenham legends.
Here, Tottenham News takes a look at 10 legends that every Spurs supporter should know.
Son Heung-min – Forward (2015-2025)
Appearances: 454
Goals: 173
One of only four captains to lift a European trophy for Tottenham, Son Heung-min capped off his decade-long stay in North London by winning the Europa League before joining LAFC.

The South Korean left North London as Spurs’ fifth all-time top goalscorer.
Son declared himself a Tottenham legend after winning the Europa League and is arguably the most popular Spurs player from the modern era.
Harry Kane – Forward (2004-2023)
Appearances: 435
Goals: 280
Spurs’ greatest goalscorer of all time and arguably the best player to ever climb the ranks at Hotspur Way.
After several frustrating loan spells, Harry Kane finally burst onto the first-team scene at Tottenham, making his mark under Mauricio Pochettino.
The striker would go on to become Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer before joining Bayern Munich in 2023, where he has since won the Bundesliga and German Super Cup, after failing to win a trophy with Tottenham.
Jimmy Greaves – Forward (1961-1970)
Appearances: 379
Goals: 266
One of England’s greatest ever strikers, the late Jimmy Greaves held the record of Spurs’ greatest goalscorer for more than fifty years before Kane surpassed his tally.
However, where Kane failed to win trophies with Tottenham, Greaves did not have the same issue. In fact, the striker scored in two separate finals for Spurs, the 1962 FA Cup final and the 1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup final.
Greaves passed away on 19 September 2021, but will always be remembered among the Spurs faithful as arguably the club’s greatest ever striker.
Glen Hoddle – Midfielder (1975-1987)
Appearances: 490
Goals: 110
As well as being one of the most exciting players to ever feature for Tottenham, Hoddle also spent some time as the Lilywhites’ manager once his playing days were over.
The now-pundit was in charge of Tottenham between 2001 and 2003.
During his playing days, Hoddle often lit up the pitch at White Hart Lane with some magic moments and won both the FA Cup and UEFA Cup as a player for Tottenham.
Ledley King – Defender (1999-2012)
Appearances: 323
Goals: 14
A one-club man and arguably Spurs’ greatest-ever defender, King is adored in North London.
Persistent knee injuries prevented the impact the centre-back could make and forced him to retire at the age of 31, but his talent was there for all to see, with Thierry Henry famously referring to King as one of the best defenders he had ever faced – high praise.
King won the League Cup as Tottenham captain in 2008 and remains an ambassador of the club.
Danny Blanchflower – Midfielder (1954-1964)
Appearances: 382
Goals: 21
Perhaps the most successful period in Spurs’ history was the early 1960s, when Tottenham became the first club in the 20th century to win the double, lifting both the First Division and FA Cup in the 1960/61 season.
Blanchflower was a key component and captain of the double-winning side.
He was twice named FWA Footballer of the Year, showcasing just how good he was.
Bill Nicholson – Midfielder (1938-1954)
Appearances: 314
Goals: 6
Perhaps the greatest-ever Tottenham legend, after joining the Lilywhites as a member of the groundstaff in 1936, the late Bill Nicholson would go on to represent Tottenham as a player, coach, assistant manager and manager over the next 38 years.
Nicholson is Spurs’ greatest-ever manager, winning eight major honours during his time in charge, but his time as a player shouldn’t be forgotten.
Often affectionately referred to as ‘Mr. Tottenham’, Nicholson sadly passed away on 23 October 2004, aged 85.
Gareth Bale – Forward (2007-2013, 2020-2021)
Appearances: 237
Goals: 71
One of the greatest Tottenham players in the modern era, Bale lit up White Hart Lane with a host of sensational goals, famously scoring a hat-trick against Inter Milan at the San Siro, before moving to Real Madrid for a then-world record fee.
After winning everything there was to win in Madrid, including five UEFA Champions League titles, Bale returned to Tottenham on loan during the 2020/21 season.
Although his second spell with Tottenham wasn’t quite as productive, the Welshman demonstrated where his loyalty lies during the Europa League final as he posed with the Tottenham players for photos after their victory while working as a pundit for TNT Sports.
Steve Perryman (1969-1986)
Appearances: 854
Goals: 39
Perryman is Spurs’ all-time record appearances holder, and won several trophies during his 17-year stay at Tottenham, including two FA Cups, two League Cups and two UEFA Cups.
After the trophies he won and the loyalty he showed Spurs, it would be difficult not to recognise Perryman as one of the 10 greatest legends at Tottenham.
Pat Jennings – Goalkeeper (1964-1977)
Appearances: 591
Goals: 1
Largely considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in English football history, Jennings won the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and two League Cups during his stay with Tottenham.
He even scored a goal from his own penalty area in the 1967 Charity Shield match against Manchester United.
