Harry Kane may have given Tottenham Hotspur some of their greatest memories, but his recent comments have left a sour taste in the mouths of Spurs fans.
Harry Kane is widely regarded as a legend of Tottenham Hotspur, as the forward spent some of his best years in N17, becoming the club’s leading goalscorer in the process.
The England International has since left Spurs for Germany, joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, but Kane has continued to maintain a relationship with his former club, even wishing Tottenham the best of luck ahead of their Europa League final and congratulating Spurs after their final win.
However, a recent interview involving the Bundesliga forward has left Tottenham fans unhappy, as Kane failed to mention any of his moments in a Lilywhite shirt as his favourite or best.
Tottenham fans upset after Harry Kane ignores Spurs memories
Speaking to Livescore, when quizzed about some of his best strikes, Harry Kane named his halfway line goal for Bayern Munich last year as his best goal scored.
Asked about the favourite goal he has ever scored, the former Spurs man chose his England debut strike as his most cherished.
As for the most important goal he has scored, Kane pointed to his semi-final goal at the Euros against Denmark.
MORE SPURS STORIES
For his most underrated effort, the Englishman went with his second goal against Tunisia in the 2018 World Cup, and when asked about his favourite fan interaction, he cited the reaction from supporters when he scored at Wembley against Germany.
With no tribute paid to any of his strikes for Tottenham, Spurs supporters were quick to react to Kane’s comments on social media, with many not best pleased.
One fan said: “There is no chance that halfway line goal for Bayern means more to him than the masked Arsenal goal… absolutely no chance. I cannot believe that for one second. I do not want to believe that, come on, Harry.”
Another stated: “He could have been a club legend. Could have broken the Premier League all-time scoring record. Instead, he went and won a league trophy at a club that the league literally purposely feeds so they can compete in the UCL.”
Another felt like he had turned on Spurs: “Turning your back on the fans that loved and defended you to the death, 2min TikTok clip, could not even be bothered to come to the final to watch your ‘mates’, poxy ‘congrats’ tweet and now not even mention the Arsenal goal, you still have not won a cup you won a SHIELD.”
One simply asked: “Why does he hate us?” Another fan was quick to acknowledge he had been rattled: “This has rattled me omg.”
Another said: “Cannot believe he did not mention the face mask goal against Arsenal. He truly is dead to us.”
Spurs fans divided over Harry Kane’s England focus
Kane is currently on international break with the England squad, and some Tottenham fans believe that the answers to these questions are mostly tailored to England because of his international duties.
One fan said: “It does not say it but the fact he is now away with England I am guessing all his answers had to be based on England. So not really understanding how we have come to the conclusion he does not like Tottenham, he did not give a Bayern answer either if that helps.”
Indeed, regardless of his comments on social media, the England captain did give Spurs fans some of their best memories when he put on a Tottenham shirt, as he continually hurt the enemy Arsenal, scoring 14 goals in 17 appearances against the Gunners.
