Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane suddenly finds himself at the centre of a transfer scramble, with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United linked with a move for the England captain.

The revelation that Kane has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave Bayern next summer for €65 million has opened the floodgates to rumours over the future of the 32-year-old.

It has been suggested that the Spurs legend will angle for a return to the Premier League to become the all-time leading scorer in the competition.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank fuelled this suggestion by revealing that Kane would be welcomed back to North London with open arms, while The Daily Star reports that Man Utd are prepared to make their interest in the striker known if he decides to leave Bayern Munich.

But what move would work best for Kane from a purely footballing perspective?

Bayern, Man Utd or Spurs?

Kane’s optimum decision has been revealed by the Career Advice tool of SciSports. This studies various factors from playing time and career development to playing system and formation. From there, each team is given a Club Fit score. The higher this is, the more suited to the move the player is.

For Kane, the clear tendency, if his aim in his final years at the top level is to maximise his talent, is to remain at Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga side are given a score of 86, which is an excellent mark.

It compares very well to Man Utd, who only have a Club Fit score of 69. The Red Devils’ figure is dragged down by scoring just one star for potential development and two in terms of playing style.

The possibility of a return to Tottenham, meanwhile, appears to be one fuelled by romance rather than practicality. Spurs get a Club Fit score of just 59.

Wildcard options for Kane

Three other sides get a Club Fit scorer of above 75.

Barcelona are the leading candidates among these clubs, and with the Catalans considering a departure for Robert Lewandowski, they could be seen as a viable option if they were prepared to break the bank for the Englishman. This is, nevertheless, unlikely.

Newcastle United tie Barca’s 77 score, with Eddie Howe’s playing style and formation thought to be particularly favourable for him. Having invested heavily in Nick Woltemade this summer, it seems unlikely that the Magpies will be in the market for another striker in 12 months unless there is a dramatic change in circumstances.

Similarly, Manchester City get a mark of 76. With rumours still surrounding the future of Erling Haaland, despite having nine years to run on his deal, Pep Guardiola’s side are arguably the best-placed side to land Kane.

The message is clear, though. To maximise the final years of his career, he should stay at Bayern.
