He’s (still, and always) one of our own! Harry Kane might not be a Tottenham Hotspur player anymore, but at least we can say that a former Spurs player has now won the Ballon d’Or. Kane received the award at an awards ceremony on Monday night in London at the Palladium Theater, making it the perfect location for Kane to receive the highest individual award in world football.

Kane has been a prolific scorer since joining Bayern Munich, with 61 goals scored in all competitions (36 in the Bundesliga) in 2025/26. Now, of course us Premier League fans can make the argument that he’s padding those stats against some truly bad German sides in the bottom half of the Bundesliga, but honestly that’s just sour grapes — it’s tough to score that many goals no matter where you’re playing, and Kane has only gotten better as he’s aged.

We were fortunate to have Harry Kane for as long as we had, and though his departure from Tottenham was somewhat acrimonious, we Spurs fans can say with satisfaction that he got his start and developed into the best version of himself at Tottenham. And while we never won any trophies with him we got damn close — a Champions League final, and two seasons where Spurs were inches away from the Premier League title. We also saw many, many spectacular goals and moments with Kane on the pitch, and nobody can take those away from us — in the process he became Spurs’ all time leading goal scorer, eclipsing the great Jimmy Greaves, a record I never thought I’d live to see broken.

Yes, I’m breaking the bit here of posting “Harry Kane falling over” pics whenever he becomes the main character in a Carty Free story, but that’s because he fully deserves this Ballon d’Or award and I don’t want to take that away from him. Whether he eventually returns to Spurs before hanging up his boots or not, he’s almost without question the best player to ever suit up for Tottenham Hotspur.
